Moderator's Report

Server replay time: 0h14m01s

On lap9, Tristan braked later than usual, partially lost the control and rearended the race leader Alain who could not continue the race... !

It should be a simple rear end shunt so penalty one place for Tristan.
But Alain wrote "I would prefer that no penalty is given".

Perhaps this option should be reviewed for next seasons but according to current usage the moderation will end to a Racing Incident and we again ask Tristan to be more careful in the future.

Season 44 F1 1967 WORKS – Round 3 –  BALCARCE

For the third race in the 1967 Grand Prix Works series, we will visit Balcarce in Argentina.  Balcarce was the birthplace of the legendary Argentinian driver Juan Manuel Fangio and we will be racing on the circuit that bears his name. The Autódromo Juan Manuel Fangio was opened in his honour on 18th January 1971. The circuit has hosted events in the Turismo Carretera series but it has never hosted Formula 1 races and to this day remains rather underdeveloped.

THERE ARE MORE THAN 19 REGISTERED DRIVERS IN THIS SERIES, SO :
The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Apologies to all. Got nerfed from behind at T1R, had to wait, then I hit somebody (still on the 1st lap at end of 2nd segment), ended up last, started climbing back and got impatient at the Esses.

There were some very quick cars out there tonight, particularly Jonathan and JonnyO in the BRMs. I only qualified 11th which was a modest performance for a Brabham. I got a clean start and settled in behind Dimi. I tried hard to put him under pressure but he didn't crack. After a few laps the was an incident at T1 and consequently Jonathan ended up right behind me. A few laps later I made a mistake on the exit of T1 and Jonathan passed me. Before long he passed Dimi too and so part 2 of my dual with Dimi began. At one point I got past but I lost the place almost immediately. Then I out braked myself at T1 and I not only let Dimi go, I lost places to Fulvio and Syd.

But then my next battle began. I had some great laps hounding both Syd and Fulvio and I eventually got through. At one point I had a spin and got in Fulvio's way. Sorry about that, I hope it didn't spoil your race.

Grats to Tris on the win and Enrique and JonnyO for their podium finishes. It looks like Doni had a brilliant race and Jonathan made a great recovery. Well done gents.

It just seemed like I didn't want to stay ahead of you Phil. Twice I got in front (because of your mistakes) and twice I spun within two laps to fall back behind. Total of 22 seconds lost in three errors (third one on the last lap, but at least it didn't cost me any further positions.
The whole race was tense for me. I had a very cautious start and lost several positions on the first lap. But after a few laps I settled down, and I was close behind Fulvio. I stayed there for a long time ( I wasn't counting laps, on purpose). At one point we came a cross a blue Brabham (Phil). We got past him, but he was all over my mirrors, and I went slightly wide on T1 which led to clipping the inside curb at T2 and a spin, 4 seconds and one positions lost. After that I kept pushing as I could see Phil and Fulvio ahead of me. I never could close down those 5 seconds, but they stayed in my view. And then with 5 laps to go I came across them at t1, each on either side of the track, and I squeezed through. And I was thinking just a few laps, don't do anything risky. And then I spin at T2 again. This time it was just a normal braking point and line into T2, and somehow car just went too wide. Lost positions to both Phil and Fulvio here. And on the last lap, as I was right on Fulvio's tail, I again braked at normal spot for T3 (second loop) but car still slid off the track. I managed to get back to racing speed just before Dulima arrived and at least kept that place.
I'll be off the next three weeks, I'm on vacation starting next weekend, see you in march.

You are right Syd, the driver who makes the least mistakes is usually the most successful. I keep telling myself that but I still end up pushing too hard  Roll Eyes

A mind-boggling race, without resting, I ran the entire race in a dispute with Evil and his speedy Cooper, in the middle of the race I made it easier for him to pass because perhaps he would have a better chance of reaching Farina and by holding on we would be slower. But after Evil passed, the distance remained stable. And we stayed like that until the penultimate lap when Doni and Steiner joined the group and that's when Evil did a 180 and fell behind, so we stayed together until the finish line...... luckily I didn't make any mistakes and I managed hold the 3rd!!!

Hail Accelerated!

Balcarce, despite having a simple layout, is a very technical track, on the first lap then, with two dangerous curves and a mistake can cause a big one of respect, fortunately everyone passed unharmed, I want to congratulate the entire grid, for being cautious and doing the first laps respecting your opponents

I started at the back of the field and it wasn't a cold race, Roberto, with his Brabham, spent practically the entire race sniffing at my gearbox.

Unfortunately and I don't know what happened, he fell behind and after that the pressure from Arf was tense, he was coming from a recovery and faster than me, it was difficult to hold on, until with 4 laps to go, he passed me, he ended up making a mistake in the T1, I went over it, Arf managed to get back to the track quickly and put pressure on him again, if there was one more lap I wouldn't have been able to hold my position, my luck was that I found Drake in the middle of the way and the little vacuum in his car, ended up saving me to the finish line, I passed with a difference of one second ahead, Arf, another excellent dispute between us

I congratulate Maurice for the pole position, Tristan for the victory, my dear Brother Farina for second place and Chef Jonny, closing the podium with an excellent result with his BRM

As Phil said, the driver who doesn't make mistakes is more successful, so the key is to make as few mistakes as possible

Hugs to everyone, have a blessed week!

Long live GPL!

A great race.

I was able to make a new PB in practice only to be outpaced by 2 drivers (I think it was Enrique and Johny maybe) by 0.004 and 0.005, so I started P7. At the start I reacted fast and clean but had to protect a driver ahead and slowed down a little bit which gave a chance to Clive and one more driver to overtake me.

From there I drove without mistakes and was able to finish in P7. The highlight of my race was the battle with Phil. I needed not to crack up, cause he was ready to eat me alive. I didn't, even though he was ahead for a moment at the back straight, but I was able to take it back with a late brake. It was a nice, clean gentlemen fight. I loved it.

Grats to Tris and the podium guys. Smiley

Can I just correct Dulima's arithmetic - the gap over the line at the end was 0.112 not a second :-)

And yes, mayyyyybbbee I'd have got you if Syd hadn't been there, but we'll never know. It was great fun though.

After my surprise performance with it at Porto, I took the Honda at the last minute here, because I just could not make the Brabham work round this track. Very lucky decision for me as I seem to gel with that car, and I ended up with a fastest lap about 1.5 secs faster than a car that would have cost me 7 credits more... kinda happy with that, just wish I hadn't spun twice, else I could have been fighting further up the field.

Grats to Tris, Enrique and Jonny for the podium spots.

Experience told me that this track will bite you if you are not careful, so I saved my tokens and opted for the Cooper. Not a car that I use very often but a few practice laps and some careful setup adjustments gave me a car that felt that it might be competitive.
This track is a little weird, because if you consider a figure 8 circuit, there ought to be an equal number of left and right hand turns? but this track has only a single left turn?Huh I'm still not sure how that is possible??!! So I set up a VERY assymetric setup and sacrificed the single left turn and it seemed to work well. The other thing that I find with this circuit is that the major corners are all much longer than I want them to be and I have to force myself to wait and wait before getting on the gas.lol.

A good start allowed me to slip past Dimi at T1 ( another great video DD  Grin ) and get onto Doni's tailpipes. His Brabham was just a little too quick to mount a challenge, but it allowed me to be the star car in Dimi's video for a few laps Wink until we came across an incident at T1. Doni went wide to avoid one of the cars and I was extremely lucky as the metal wall parted and I could drive straight through the middle and steal Doni's position. With a clear road I was just a few tenths faster than doni and slowly, slowly I eased away and started hunting down Jonny's BRM. Eventually I caught him, but it was clear that there was very little difference in our lap times..he was quicker on the straights and I was better under braking and through the corners.
Jonny was very gracious and allowed me to pass (
I Am Not Worthy
, I was not expecting him to do that. But I then gave myself a few laps to build my pace before trying to reel in Enrique.
The reason that I did not pull away from Jonny is quite simple a) I was not fast enough and b) I had realised that I did not have enough fuel to reach the end of the race!!! So many laps of lift and coast with short shifting gradually stretched the consumption. It was a tough juggling act trying to keep Jonny far enough behind so that he could not attack, but keeping the revs as low as possible.

By the time we got to the last 3 laps I had a little spare fuel in the tank but Jonny, Doni and John were "on a mission" behind and closing the gap. All through the race I had avoided wheelspin out of the corners and kept the rear tyres cool. But the pressure made me over eager with the throttle and my left rear went red. With no time or gap to ease off and allow it to cool down I was in trouble. I almost knew what was about to happen as I braked for T3 into the tight section. Sure enough the rear tyres gave up and round we went!!!! losing 3 places so close to a possible 3rd place was not a good feeling !!!!
Well done JJ, Doni and John for applying the pressure and getting the result.

What an Epic Race and a much-needed recovery after Porto last time out.

After my screw-up last race, I went straight out and downloaded Balcarce and did a solid hour of practice in the BRM to learn the track. This track is a lot of fun and has a nice flow.

Come qualifying, I managed to set a low 33 lap time and had the pole for quite a while, I was shocked, to be honest! But I ended up 3rd in the end. Not Bad for the Monster.

I didn't get the best launch, and Cookie overtook me for 3rd. However, on lap 3, he overcooked it in T1 and clipped the Grass, sending him spinning. I ran a bit wide into the middle myself, right into his path. There was nowhere to go as I watched 7 cars fly by which dropped me to 11th. Thankfully the car was undamaged. From there, I focused on consistency. I made a couple of nice passes, and with the mistakes of others got back up to 6th. After the leaders collided, we all moved up one place. Hence ensued an epic battle between myself, Doni, JonnyO, & Evil. I hounded Doni lap after lap, riding up his gearbox, I can still smell the Repco exhaust.. LOL But he refused to make the mistake of allowing me to pass. He went wide a couple of times in T1, but I wasn't close enough to capitalize. With a few laps to go, poor Evil had a lazy spin allowing us to all zoom past, that's a sucker punch way to lose a podium spot Sad 3rd thru 5th finished within 1.3 seconds of each other! Congrats to the podium and Doni for an awesome battle in the last 1/2 of the race!

Hi  .......   Alain , I'm sorry, I didn't want to try anything, I was resigned from the start to finish second behind you, have you slowed down your pace?....I go a little sideways when braking and I lock up the wheels, I try to avoid you, but when sliding I no longer control the car....sorry again man, really a shame that your race ended there, the victory was clearly for you....
thx all & Org.

Short on time but I do have one question for our series moderator, Dave Rainier...

Has an incident report been submitted as yet for Bot taking down Alain from the lead and marching on to victory?  If not, I'd be happy to file one.

I couldn't finish happier with this 2nd place, after the incident with the 2 leaders, I put myself in 1st place for about 4 laps, but the Frenchman got very close to me and I preferred to let it go and avoid an incident and losing a possible podium because of it. Then I had to get behind the 1st place and run as best as possible so that Jonnie wouldn't catch up with me and that's how it was, I think I made a good strategy and it turned out quite well,
congratulations jonnie, very good with the 16 cylinder car Cool
