Moderator's Report

Summary

Despite a few uncharacteristic mistakes, Hristo won the race in the nimble Cooper with Lorenzo guiding the big BRM into second spot. Neil was the best of the rest securing third spot in yet another Cooper.

Server replay time: 0h01m32s

Lap 1 - Virage de la Gare

The inevitable single file procession through Virage de la Gare on lap one almost always causes problems. On this occasion the concertina effect caught up with Bernie after Art had practically come to a dead stop. Bernie nudged Art's gearbox and he was in turn hit by Amir with Will joining in the fun and gently tagging Amir.

The fact that no car was catapulted into the air was testimony to the sensible driving by all.

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 0h13m24s

Lap 9 - Virage de la Gare

Kruger is following Syd and takes a tighter line through Virage de la Gare. As they exit the corner very slight contact is made and Syd is sent into a spin.

On all his previous laps, Syd had taken a very tight line but on this occasion he left his braking marginally later and ran slightly wide. Kruger took his normal tight line. This is quite a common occurrence on this corner nevertheless it is the following driver's responsibility to ensure there is no contact.

  • Kruger Engepenalty — Rear End Shunt — 1 place lost

Server replay time: 0h13m30s

Lap 9 - Virage de la Gare

After the shunt with Kruger, Syd is facing backwards on the racing line and is going to get hit unless he gets out of the way quickly. He tries a quick spin turn but he isn't quick enough and Clive clips his rear wheel before he completes the 180. Syd then waits for Clive and Steven to go by before he completes his recovery.

There wasn't much else Syd could do. He had a split second opportunity to try to avoid contact but unfortunately it didn't come off. If he had stayed where he was contact was guaranteed.

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 0h14m05s

Lap 9 - Portier

Art spins on the exit of the corner before Portier and ends up orthogonal to the racing line. He lets Amir past and then tries to rejoin but Will is following closely and Art hits Will's offside front wheel.

Will continues but crashes out at the chicane. It is unclear from the replay and mechanical report whether or not the shunt with Art had any bearing on Will's crash.

Art was on the track but off the racing line (although it is quite hard to judge from the cockpit) consequently he should have waited until he was sure the track was clear. Neither driver reported the incident.

Advice - If you are on the track but off the racing line stay put until the track is clear. If you are on the racing line get off it as soon as possible.

As for me well I selected the Coop after having a good race in Clubmans with it and got into the 29's   Shocked and that got me P9 or 10.

Had a pretty good start and made up a place going into T1. I tucked in behind Steve and just wanted to make sure that I kept close but not close enough for any incident. Coming down into Mirabeu I was ok but added a bit too much gas going down into Gare and locked up. Underwear felt a little uncomfortable as I thought I'd rear end Steve but managed to avoid him. Unfortunately this had a concertina effect and I got bumped from behind but that was a RI and no damage was done and I managed to carry on happy.  Smiley

As for the rest of race apart from the RI with Will, which I do apologise for m8, but just couldn't see you and the next thing I know I feel a bump.  Sad Sorry again for that Will. After that nothing much to report and with 7 to go I'm in 7th  Shocked and coming down into the chicane I done a Will and that was my race over.  :'(

Still I'm happy as I done a 1m 28 in the race.  Smiley Shocked

Gratz to the podium and c ya all in a fortnight.

Not a good race for me.....
I did a decent lap in qualifying but was pretty far from my pb, and started 3rd....
I tried to overtake Neil at the start but it wasn't possible, then he did a mistake and i passed him...
The rest of the race turned into a nervous breakdown everytime i was on the hairpins , that damned car is bloody slow there, it gives you a feeling of impotence, the sensation i feel everyday driving my Panda!!
Grats Hristo on your stunning win!

Thanks, Lorenzo. I chose Cooper not only because I used it in the Masters race, but also because qualifying was going to be decisive. I didn't believe BRM would be able to gain on its lack of pitstop due to not taking pole and so it turned out to be true. My race was mediocre, I made numerous mistakes, hitting the walls many times, even spinning once. The car managed to hold on though and make it to the end. Grats all finishers.

A triumph of consistency over skill for me (although I did bang in a fair few 1:28s during the race, so not bad pace for an ex-Waza) - two small scrapes with armco/hay and *lots* of retirements rewarded me with 6th (1 lap down).

Watched Evil pull away, then a bit of exitement catching him again when he spun (due to melted rear tyes). One he'd put them out, he was off again. After I pitted, it was relatively lonely apart from Hristo lapping me I Am Not Worthy

Well done to the podiums! Zandy next, which is Cooper-friendly (if I can keep it out of the sand  Shocked).

I was quite disappointed with qually, a 1:26.8 was a long way off my PB, but still enough for 4th on the grid.  The start was clean and I held the inside line into T1.  I managed to hold off Syd by taking to the kerb and slotted in behind Lorenzo.

Over the next few laps I really struggled with the cold tyres and came under pressure from Syd, until he disappeared off the radar a while later, leaving me with an 11 second gap to Kruger.  After the pitstops, it was Evil behind and the aliens miles ahead (yes I was the odd one out Clive  Wink) and again I was left battling my concentration.  After a few near misses with the hay bales and an ever narrowing chicane (why does it do that the further you are into the race) I dragged my battered and bruised Cooper over the lline for 4th.

Thanks all, grats to the podium and I'll see you all at Zandy.

Hi guys Sorry i didnt race specially to The Cooperman, i had a brillant weekend at a wedding, and a stag night, so not had much sleep and too much drink lol, so i thought it was sensible not to race at monaco, if it was another then maybe.

Grats to winners looking forward to next race, fully recovered and back in action!

I know it doesn't effect my result, but can I just clarify the 5s penalty for taking my pit stop too late. Is the laps to go thing the actual number of laps to go, or whats displayed on the pitboard? I pitted when the pitboard said the same number of laps left as it did for the final lap of the pitstop window.

It actually means number of laps to go rather than what's displayed on the pitboard.  I appreciate this is rather confusing so I'll state the pitboard laps to go in future race announcements and reinstate your 5 seconds for this race.  As you say it doesn't make any difference to the results.  The most important thing is to be clear in the race announcements.

Cheers Phil. If you could post both laps to go and pitboard laps to go that'd be really useful as some tracks have the board after the s/f line. I guess it may also have an effect depending on where the s/f line is in pitlane.

Thanks once again

Yes Monaco and Nurby are examples of each.  Provided drivers peel off into the pit lane at the next opportunity after the end of the pit window is shown on the pit board they should be OK (as you would have been at Monaco).  Moderators will apply some discretion if there is a peculiar pit lane configuration.
