I have updated the server details in the race announcement. As Evil says best to have the pit wall in place BUT you will only be disqualified if you appear to mysteriously cross through it.
The race password will be announced in GPLR Racer and UKGPL chat prior to the event.
It appears we may be oversubscribed so the fairest way, if we need to split the grid, would be first drivers in chat go grid one. Sorry if this doesn't suit some - the main issue here was keeping the admin for this event down to a minimum after the last experience. Either way we should get a good mix of driver abilities.

For those new to an event such as this the main thing to remember is 'team' - finishing gains extra points. If we run two grids the results will be combined. At the last event (21/7/09) we were beaten 276 to 215 so time to even things up  Wink

PS: BIG reminder - 8.30pm start

Why not separate people by Amateurs/Graduates and Novices/Privateers? Would provide closer racing.

GPL Racer don't have quite the same structure. Let's see how many turn up - if that's viable and we have time it might be an idea. Lastest count is GPL Racer have 11 attendees.

Er, just noticed the note about the pit wall. It may seem odd, but none of my GPL installations- and there have been a few- have ever had a pit wall at Kyalami. Is it just me?

Here's a link to the Kyalami pitwall download page : http://srmz.net/index.php?showtopic=4260

Please read the following instructions, prior to assembly.

3 files need to be extracted and renamed.  Change .t69 .369 & .m69 into .trk .3do & .mip
Add them to your Kyalami track folder.  "Et voila!" These 69mod files, will now magically appear as per on-line requirements.  Smiley

I had a good start but with a slow widelined t1 I had cars up my side for ever and was7 th by the end of l1 I think. started to get exciting second half of the race where I was 4 th soon 3 rd after pedro went wide and on the grass t1. I had a good view of the battle between Stefan and John and I didn t have problems keeping the pace. I was looking forward to a podiumfinish with john as a winner if I could keep pedro behind me. Then with like 4 -5 laps to go I see stefan rearend john in last turn and john is out. He kept going but started to do small mistakes here and there so I could quiet easily come in to his tow. 1 st time he outbraked me vastly into t1 and I knew I had to brake later to get in front. last lap I was up his side again and in front and braked as late as I dared.braking point I guess was fine but a bit early downshift made me kick in a bit more than the BRM liked and after hanging between spin and no spin like forever I was on the grass facing backwards. I really wanted to beat that guy after I saw how he nudged john so I was very close to smash my kb after this spin. instead I let it out on on teamspeak into poor Al s ears. I don t even remember where I ended and I don t care much really. 5 th I think.

I think my ears are still ringing after that Tom! I must have learnt just about every Norwegian swear word there is... censored Shocked

Quallied mid-grid & had a fun battle with Andi from GPLR for the first part of the race. After several laps he got past cleanly but I was able to hold on to his tail & got ahead when he had a spin. That elevated me to 5th place & I could see an interesting fight ahead with 2 UKGPL drivers  (Tom & John) vs 2 GPLRs. Moved up to 4th after John got shunted & was catching the leading trio while being pursued closely by Andi who was going very quickly. Unfortunately this time Andi's move wasn't as clean as before - he dived up the inside at T1 & I stayed as wide as I could to give him room but his tail swung out slightly & knocked me out of the race. Was disappointed as there was a podium possibility but remembered it was just a fun race Wink

Thanks to the GPLR guys for the race.

I almost missed this bit of fun!! I got home from work late and totally forgot about the 8:30 start  Undecided
So I drifted on to the chat at about 8:50, where I was jumped upon by Tim and despatched to "Server 2" immediately.

My head was still spinning as I landed in South Africa, and it took me a while to get a feel for the Cooper on full fuel. With about 5 mins to go I dumped a load of fuel and tried to move up from a lowly 10th on the grid.  I was quite surprised to post a 2nd spot and hold it.

Lack or prep showed when 1st gear bogged down on the grid and I got passed by a flying BRM to drop to 3rd before T1!!. By the end of lap 1, I was hooked onto the tail of the leading pair.
I was held back by the BRM, as the pole sitter's Fezza eased away. By the time I had made several aborted outbraking attempts into T1 the gap to the leader had grown still further.
So, a banzai draft out of the hairpin and down the straight, last of the last brakers and stuck the Cooper down the inside to take 2nd place. Not sure what happened then, but the BRM ran wide. Hope there was no contact as I did not register anything and thought it was a clean pass, but maybe I just caught him by surprise???

I tried to close the gap on the fezza in 1st spot and suceeded in closing the gap by a couple of seconds until the strain on the tyres proved too much and they overheated and I had to back off or risk a trip into the veldt Undecided
From there to the end it was a case of hoping that Goran would  move up from 4th to grab 3rd and maintaining my pace. Watching prib instead of the track caused me to spin at T2 but I got going again before the pack arrived and was able to cruise to a second spot finish easily.
frustrated at not being able to get on terms with the 1st place Fezza to make a race of it, but his win was well deserved as he was very quick and consistant.

Thanks to GPL Racer for a fun event and some great racing. Grin

Firstly many thanks to GPL Racer for this fun event.

My race was short and not sweet. Settled in behind Martin (who I forgot was driving for GPLR) and Steve to await developments with Bernie behind. I then completely messed up at the Esses (I think) - driven it 100 times no problem and now I mess it up DOH. To compound things the car spun right round back onto the track and took out Bernie too - very sorry for that Bernie. So I can't say I contributed to the UKGPL team effort I'm afraid.

OK now the bad news for UKGPL. I have put the score calculations (feel free to double-check) and replays here and the scores on the doors were GPL Racer 262 / UKGPL 170

Congratulations to the visitors and commiserations to the home team. Another event in the future to get our revenge might be in order. Anyway thanks again to both teams for a great event.

A big SORRY to natan vix65, for hitting you and taking you out of the race! This was totally my fault and really not my intention! I was a bit too impatient and a tick too late on the break. Sad

Besides...
Was that your fighting line (you were going on the inside line at nearly every corner, when entering the corner) you drove the laps before, when I followed you?
You would have been much faster staying on the racing line, which would have made it much harder for me to follow you Wink

-------------------

Thanks to to Vosblod (UKGPL) and Thor (GPLRACER) for organising this fun race. Especially to Thor who helped out organising, while I was on holiday.
I hope we will repeat this in the future.

Cheers
Stefan

Qualified 7th after Clive threw out the tow rope (thanks Evil). Got a good start and found myself somewhat above my station in 4th, battling with Evil and the front two. I might even have briefly been in 3rd at the esses but need to check the replay.

Anyway the inevitable spin at T2 (god I hate that corner) occurred after a few laps, dropping me down into 8th. I got onto Martin's tail but my attempted pass at Crowthorne went wrong. We both braked too late, and although we never touched each other, went into the grass banking and retired.

I'm pretty gutted at not finishing but I'm not used to the harsh mistress that is no shift-R yet. Still it was great to be up the sharp end in the early laps, thanks to Clive for some (brief) enjoyable racing.

Well done to the guys at GPLRACER, it would be nice to do this again sometime, and thanks to Tim for organising it.

I think you forgot the 100 point bonus to the team with the fastest lap Tim  Wink

My race was enjoyable, Got taken out on lap 2 when John ran slightly wide into T1 and lag did the rest  :'(
Rejoined way back as had to wait an age (seemingly) for the pack to stream past.
After a bit of squabling and a few passes I found myself stuck behind a Honda driven by Thor, I was the quicker of the 2 but he was excellent at defending (Helped as he was by having the tow from Natan's BRM to help prevent me slipstreaming past on the straight!).
Eventually he span at Clubhouse bend and I dived to the inside, we still touched but he sportingly let me past before re-ingaging the Waza Warp drive.
I then found myself gaining on Fulvio, and got past after a few laps, sadly Fulvio fell off at Clubhouse himself a few laps later.
Was expecting to finish 6th but a few last minute collisions/spins elevated me to 4th - should have been a win looking at my laptimes, but then that's racing.....

Tryed the Tronaasen Beta test briefly and had great fun (Or should that be carnage?) hurling a Honda up the mountain before falling back off again on the downhill  Grin Shame I didn't have a decent setup..
Is the grass on the edges of the track supposed to be that sticky? And for that matter is the main highway supposed to be so off camber?  Smiley
Great track, I'll probably have to download and try the other rally tracks now  Roll Eyes  Cheesy

*edit* having seen Johns replay it seems lag was at fault rather than John, not really a suprise as it's normally me that hits himninja

Bit of a slow start as I got boxed in behind the guy in front and couldn't move out in time to make anything of it.  A couple of incidents ahead and I found myself after a few laps following Goran who was chasing 3rd.  I though he was on the UK team so never mounted a challange but sat patiently to see if he could launch an attack, only later to find out that he was driving for GPLR!!! DOH!!

Goran spun out at T1 on the last lap after appearing to clip the inside kerb gifting me 4th but it was all too late for mounting any serious challange for a podium place.

Good fun driving though, and nice for me to have a bit of competative speed for a change!

WD to all who took part, and grats to Uli onthe race win.

Thanks UKGPL for this event.

Very slow start from me ending up in a exciting 1e lap.
Later i was stuck behind John p1 and Steffen p2 ( who I dont wanted to attack to much)

.. second half of the race where I was 4 th soon 3 rd after pedro went wide and on the grass t1. I had a good view of the battle between Stefan and John

Steffen had a good oppertunity to pass John there and then!
I "Fool" was looking to long at the outcome of this duell and braked to late Cheesy

Mixed feelings after the race.
Not happy en feeling sorry seeing John being kicked off by Steffen in Leeuwkop Sad
I have great respect for your cool defending way of driving John.
And I think that nobody want to have this kind of accident but when racing get so close as this it happens.

And now I know what that ugly sound was what  I heard was I passed the "spinning" BRM from KingHiro.

Hope to see you all soon!
Thanks and greetings,
Pedro
