This season we will be running five divisions using a mixture of the mods and the original cars so there should be something for everyone. The Inter League series has been replaced with a “Spec Race Challenge”, primarily for the 65 cars, and will occupy a Sunday night slot alternating with the “Graduates Cup” division for the 1967 cars. The 65 and 66 cars will share alternate Tuesday night slots; the Amateurs and Novices running one week and the Historic Trophy the other. We anticipate our friends at GBGPL will run a 69 division on alternate Mondays but their season won’t be starting for a while so there isn’t an opportunity to run a joint 69 division this season. UKGPL drivers will be able to enter the GBGPL series when their season starts but the results won’t be imported into the UKGPL records.
As ever, drivers are being asked to read the rules, dates and track selection for each division and enter the divisions, they prefer. The objective here is to ensure the drivers are happy with the rules, dates and track selection of their chosen division(s) before committing to the season. The moderators reserve the right to adjust the driver allocation as necessary but this is unlikely for all but the Amateurs and Novices divisions.
The “Graduates Cup” was very successful last season with enough entrants to run 2 separate divisions. A “Works” division for the faster drivers and a “Privateers” division for the normally aspirated. This division will again use the original 1967 cars with chassis allocation through a system of tokens. There will be a slight modification to the token system for Season 19 to encourage more use of the mid-range chassis. Drivers of all abilities are welcome but the slower drivers will not be afforded a chassis advantage.
Newcomers to GPL will generally enter the Novices Trophy that utilizes the 65 cars. Here they will be able to get up to speed with racing on-line without the demands of the challenging 1967 cars. Once they are comfortable on-line, they may decide to move on to the higher divisions with the faster cars. Faster newcomers and experienced drivers who like the 65 cars, are best suited to the Amateurs Trophy (to be run on the same night as the Novices Trophy).
Drivers of all abilities who enjoy the 66mod can enter the Historic Trophy division. The top drivers in the championship will be restricted to the slower chassis. This season drivers will be seeded and allocated a chassis group for the first race, this should prevent the first round being a virtual spec race. The races will be run under PRO damage.
Drivers will not be restricted to entering a single division. Drivers can enter as many divisions as they like but they cannot enter both the Novices Trophy and the Amateurs Trophy.
