Lap 13
4 corners later, Graham is now right behind Luci into Clubhouse. Luci takes a widish line in and a late apex, but Graham takes a much tighter line as if Luci were going wide. Graham hits Luci mid apex. This was far too ambitious and didn't account for what Luci might do. I think Graham assumed that Luci's wide line meant she had gone too deep and would not make the apex. Had Graham been following for a lap or 2 to work out the lines and braking points used by Luci it might have made this more acceptable as a misjudgement, but this was almost the first corner when Graham was close enough to think about an overtake.
One other thing worth mentioning. Joe Murphy missed the pit lane entry and stopped on the verge after the pit exit. This is not an acceptable alternative - if you miss the pits then you must go round and pit again. Only use the pits. Since this was a test race, rules are new and Joe retired anyway there seems little point in issuing a penalty here. |

Moderator's ReportLap 1
At the bottom of Eau Rouge T Barton and L Wong make side by side contact which causes quite a bad pileup, despite this I think the initial incident was a racing incident. P.Adams and A Mcdanger have separate accidents at Masta and hit each other Lap 2: J. Murphy spins at Masta and L.Wong can't avoid, racing incident Lap 5: M.Portman loses the rear of his car, the front suddenly grips and throws him across the road into the unfortunate D.Dell who is taking avoiding action, racing incident

Moderator's ReportThis has to be one of the most involved races I've ever had to moderate. Lots of incidents, many of them simple mistakes, but also several which were at least avoidable by taking a bit more care. It was also apparent that a lot of drivers were quite happy to nurf the armco almost every lap. This is a penalty offense according to the guidelines because its an abuse of the intermediate damage level we run to give drivers a 2nd chance, but since so many drivers did it there seems little point enforcing the rule. Lap 1
Up ahead, after a good clean start, the field bunches up at the Station hairpin (as it so often does on lap 1). Graham Houghton gets a bit too close to the car in front and taps it, causing him to suddenly lose speed. Ben Summers is behind and is caught out by the speed change, and nudges into Graham. Ben is then hit from behind simultaneously by Luci and Vinny who are obviously only focusing on their private battle. Carnage results. I feel both Vinny and Luci are to blame here. The initial contacts would not had have a big impact on their own, and the tightness of the hairpin makes them hard to avoid. Fot this reason I've decided only to issue penalties to Vinny and Luci. The normal penalty for a lap 1 rear end shunt is 3 places, but Luci's penalty is reduced because I feel she lost out unfairly at the previous corner and had already shown careful driving. I've also reduced both of them as this sort of situation would have been hard to avoid in any event - it was the scale of the impact that made it really bad.
Lap 2: Martin Portman rear-ends Paul Adams at Tabac. No excuse really so early in the race.
J Vizoso is following Ralph Maiph into Tabac. Ralph has to back off a bit due to the car in front getting sideways, but JV doesn't notice and ploughs into the back of him. I think warp played a small part in making this worse, but JV really should have taken more care at this early stage.
Graham Houghton is caught up in the mess of the above incident, ends up facing backwards, and in his eagerness to get going does a big spin turn in front of 2 approaching cars. The one behind problem would have hidden them from view, but Graham didn't take any time to assess the situation or let things settle down. Only a large slice of luck prevented a big accident.
Lap 5: Jared Chainey Rear ends Tim Whiting at the gassworks hairpin. Since he had followed Tim for several laps it appears he just missed his braking point, so the penalty is reduced.
Lap 6
Paul Adams approaches the chicane where Simon Gymer has crashed. Yellow flags are clearly visible but Paul keeps his foot down until its far too late to avoid an incident.
Lap 9: Tom Barton shift Rs after a collision at the chicane. He pits at the end of the lap for his scheduled stop but neglects to take the stop/go penalty.
Lap 11
Lap 14
J Vizoso shift Rs at the end of his pitstop, but doesn't take and extra stop/go. Pitstops do not allow you to shift R!
Lap 17
Eddie Urbanski also skipped more than 1 stop/go.
There was some confusion at the end of the race as several drivers were shown the chequered flag a lap early, but luckily all those affected stopped and so the result was not affected. Paul Adams also had a very bad connection throughout the race, with frequent large clock smashes making his car appear and disappear several times a lap! On one occasion this caused a big accident. I'd like to remind everybody that a good connection is a pre-requisite for taking part in the races. If you are getting bad clock smashes or the other cars are disappearing then do the decent thing and retire. |

Moderator's ReportLap 1, Becketts: Collis Coll makes a move on the inside of Van De Skids taking him out.
Lap 12, Pitlane: Juan's Brabham Pitstop pitstop is 12 seconds rather than the 15 required.
Lap 23, Club: Derrick Del rear ender on Collis Coll. Derrick has been hunting down Collis for many laps and finally gets within "striking distance" with a lap and a half to go with Collis catching up on a back marker.

Moderator's ReportLap1
Mo Ahmed: into the dreaded hairpin again and Eddie turns in for the corner. Having watched this I think Mo should have slowed and stayed back and Eddie might have tried to stay a little wider. But It was obvious to Mo that it was Eddies corner and I feel Mo was wrong to try at such a dangerous place to gain places.
Ralph Maiph clips Derrick Dell, luckily this causes Del only a momentary loss of control (it was pretty hairy tho') which Del gathered up rather well.. but Ralph has a spin.
Simon Gymer is cautioned; he exits the pitstop on lap 12 a tad aggressively and causes Colliss to take to the grass to avoid a coming together between the two cars. I realise the importance of keeping our time in the pits to a minimum but please all realise that pitstops need to be taken with care and drivers need to pay particular attention to exiting the pits. |
