Moderator's ReportOverly aggressive overtaking move on Ian Parker in the kink (final corner). Alex pulled beside Ian as they approached the kink. Alex was on the inside, they went through side by side, but Alex moved across onto the racing line after the kink, pushed Ian off of the track and caused Ian to crash and roll the car. Alex didn't wait for Ian to rejoin the race.
Overly aggressive overtaking move on Marc Mercer into Turn 5. Alex braked far too late and slid up the inside of Marc as he turned into the corner. They collided and both crashed off the circuit. Alex waited for Marc to rejoin the race before he himself rejoined.
Bowt started to overtake Marc as they approached a yellow flag. The yellow flag was clearly visible to Bowts car before he had any part of his car beside Marcs. Marc slowed for the yellow, and Bowt completed his overtaking move. This was a borderline case, but I want to make sure everyone is aware that in yellow flag areas there should be NO overtaking.
Lap 22. Paul was following Richard into Turn 1. Paul braked far too late, saw he was going to hit Richard, tried to jink right to miss him, but hit him anyway. Both cars went off the track. Paul waited for Richard to rejoin, but as Richard moved onto the track Dan Leach was coming through and there was contact, which threw Richard back off the track. Dan carried on. Paul was still waiting for Richard to rejoin, so he let

Moderator's ReportPaul Grillo: Public Warning. Although Paul didn't cause any damage to any other car, he was indirectly responsible for instigating the whole startline incident by the use of Shift-R on the grid.
Florent Lambert: Penalty for being overly aggressive during the start. He broke both the above rules. In normal circumstances the penalty for starting a race the way he did would be much more severe than I have applied here, but Florents case is mitigated by the unusual actions of Paul. He suddenly had a car right in front of him and closer to him than normal. It was a split second decision, especially as Paul made a slow start, and I feel he made an error of judgement, but he tried to do it as cleanly as possible.
Marc Mercer: Public Warning. Marc is very unlucky here, but the accident could have been avoidable if Marc hadn't had so much wheelspin at the start. If you compare Marc's start with the top 8 cars on the grid, he had between 2 and 7 times the amount of wheelspin that they did.. I measured the length of his skidmarks too!! (This is how the police assess accidents)
5 point penalty. Graeme failed to slow down or use caution when there was an obvious incident in front of him. It may have been pure survival instinct rather than any attempt to capitalise on the accident to the detriment of safety, but he used the pitlane and tried to accelerate past all the trouble, clipped a car and made the traffic jam worse.
Dan Leach: 10 point penalty for failing to slow down or take avoiding action when it was clear there was an accident ahead. He didn't seem to slow at all and hit more than 1 car. (Dan received a warning in Kyalami for ignoring a yellow and having contact with a car returning to the track).
Dave Powell: Public Warning for recovering his car in a manner likely to endanger other drivers. Dave was unable to avoid a car which spun in front of him at Tabac. Daves car was left in a dangerous position at the exit of the corner and he executed a J - turn to extricate himself. The fact that you can only see 1 car behind means he almost hit 2 cars as they came through, and clipped Florent due to spinning the car into the barrier and bouncing back a little. Florent had entered the corner too quickly, true, but Dave's recovery spins seemed a little reckless as if he was more interested in not losing too many places rather than returning to the race safely. It was a very awkward situation to be in, but if in doubt, stay put until you are sure it is safe to move.
Marc Royal: Public Warning. Marc caught some cars at the final hairpin that were going slowly due to an earlier incident. Marc passed a yellow flag but maybe didn't see it as it was held up just as he passed it. In the braking area there was a car going slowly and taking a wide line. Marc seemed to brake late and had to go up the inside to avoid a collision. The other car turned in and Marc couldn't stop in time and "T-boned" him. Then Marc seemed to try to keep going around the corner, tight to the apex and hit the same car again, which spun Marcs car so it was blocking the track. The cars behind had to come to a complete halt and nobody could move or shift-r without causing a massive accident. To his credit, Marc did the only thing he could and hit the ESC button to remove his car from the track.

Moderator's ReportAs the pack enters Turn 1, Neil Charlton hits Richie Manic in the rear. It looks like Neil came in too fast or didn't brake enough, and at the last minute he tried to cut in to the right, which meant he clipped Bowt who was on the inside, as well as launching Richies car into a roll.
Lap 1: Florent Lambert loses it under braking behind Paul Grillo into the hairpin. Paul slows smoothly, early and safely, whereas Flo seems to go in too hot, and spins the car out behind Paul without hitting him. He waits while the pack goes through (or is pressing shift-r repeatedly but GPL waits for a space to put him on the track), but the car resets right in front of Jerry Hammonds Ferrari, causing another crash.
In the pack of cars that was coming past Florents stranded Ferrari, Ian Wright keeps in line and slows safely, but instead of slotting in behind him, Richard Jerome moves to the inside and comes alongside. Ian had to come aross a little to avoid Florents car, but Richards car pushes Ian into Florent and Ian ends up against the tyres.

Moderator's ReportLap 1: Richard Jerome gets a 10 point penalty, for causing the T1 crash by locking up and hitting Richie Manic in the gearbox. Chaos then ensued, but everyone seemed to act as responsibly as possible.

Moderator's ReportThere was a driver who got his car into such a spin that he ended up rejoining the track THE WRONG WAY! He soon noticed his error and turned round, just executing his turn as another car came through. The 2 cars almost touched but luckily there was no contact. The stewards let this incident pass due to the drivers previous totally clean record, and the fact that he came clean about his mistake to the clerk of the course after the race. There was no actual incident here, only a potential incident, and whereas in the past I have penalised people for trying to rejoin the race too quickly without any thought for other cars, in this case it was just a simple mistake caused by "dizzyness" ;) Lap 12. Bill Worthington had been following Paul Harrington for a while, and when Paul seemed to slip wide at the hairpin, Bill took the inside line. The cars were alongside each other through the slowest corner on the track. Bill left a "relative" 2-3 foot gap between his car and Pauls, but Paul lost the back end of the car, as if he had been bumped slightly. To Paul it must have felt like he was bumped out of the way, while to Bill, well he didnt even realise that Paul wasn't there on the exit of the corner, and still left room for him. I have seen cars racing much closer without incident, so I can only put this incident down to warp, and therefore it is a racing incident. |

Moderator's ReportDuring qualifying a driver was seen to exit the pits and hold up a car who was on a hotlap through the esses. The car waited at the pit exit and the track seemed clear but just as he decided to pull out, the car on the hotlap appeared in his mirrors. At this point the driver should have moved off of the racing line, or even totally off the track and onto the grass, to let the car on the hotlap through, because he had only just exited the pits and had nothing to lose. I'm sure it was a mistake, but we need to be extra careful about holding up other cars as we exit the pits. |

Moderator's ReportI am happy to report that there were no major incidents at Mexico. This is becoming a habit guys, that's 2 or 3 races in a row where you made me sit through all those different cars replays for nothing!! There were the usual minor incidents, cars getting caught by another cars spin for example, but on the whole it was a great race. |

Moderator's ReportLap 1 Lap 2. At the entry to the same slow right hander after the long straight, Bill Worthington loses it under braking, slides sideways towards and over the apex and slides sideways into Bowt NetterToDo, who fortunately is right next to the bales of hay, gets bashed sideways a little and carries on without losing a place. Lap 3: Paul Grillo is following another car on the 1st part of the fast straight with Bill behind a little way behind him. After the kink/bump Paul gets his back right wheel on the grass and gets into a lurid slide which he manages to recover. Bill is closing fast and tries to avoid Paul as he has slowed a little but just grazes Pauls rear wheel, sending Paul off into the forest. Bill was very unlucky here, as was Paul. |
