Moderator's ReportCongratulations to Chris Bull on a fine drive to take the season opener from Brendan Wright, who also had a good race. In Chris’ case I was particularly chuffed to see the progress made in the off season, since he must have averaged about 2Mb of emailed replays for each round last season and finished the last race wedged in the pit barrier at Zeltweg. Well done mate. Laps 3 to 22: The Robert Burton Saga
Lap 5 Gerlachbocht: Ian Docherty
Lap 8 Tarzanbocht Bernie Darwin
Lap 8 Huzaren Vlak: Dave Lawrence Mike Ratcliffe and Ed Harrison
Following this incident Dave then attempts to do a SnG but out brakes himself in the pits and runs into the straw bales at the far end. Presumably thinking that his car may now be damaged again, Dave then takes another ShiftR but appears to have decided that Stop-n-Goes are not for him as he doesn’t attempt another one to cover the ShiftR that was taken in the pits.
Lap 8 Pullevelt: Ed Harrison
Lap 10 Tarzanbocht: Mike Ratcliffe and Mike Turner
Lap 11 Scheivlak: Ian Docherty and Brendan Wright
Lap 13 Tarzanbocht: Graham Poole
Lap 14 Tunnel Oost: Dave Lawrence and Chris Bull
Following this incident he drives off the top of a high bank and lands in the middle of the circuit; just missing Brendan Wright, the second place car. This is reduced to 2 places from 3 on the basis that you missed.
Lap 15 Tunnel Oost: Ian Stanley, Ed Harrison and Brendan Wright
Following these incidents Ed does not do a SnG for either ShiftR.
Lap 19 Tarzanbocht: Bernie Darwin and Ed Harrison
Following these incidents Ed Harrison then reversed onto the track in front of Graham Poole. In mitigation he had seen Graham have his own private accident and initially may had had time to carry out the manoeuvre. Also he did try going forward but with far too many revs on and I am not entirely sure that he intended to engage reverse anyway. Since no harm was done I will leave this as a caution.
Lap 20/21: Ed Harrison and Dave Lawrence
Lap 23 Pulleveld : Paul Bird and Dave Lawrence
Lap 23 Panoramabocht: Paul Brock and Robert Burton
Lap 25 Tarzanbocht: Robert Burton and Alan Walker

Moderator's ReportAs far as Spa races go this was quite a good one, so well done to one and all. The start was clean, the race was not heavily punctuated with piles of broken cars and the race at the front was a good battle between Brendan, Chris and Ben. Ben crossed the line to start his last lap in first place, pedalling like fury in his Cooper but the poor beast cried enough before he cleared the pits and Ben appeared to make a long swearing-and-cursing stop, perfectly positioned within the last pit stall and then retired. Lap 1 Les Combes: Paul Brock and Mike Ratcliffe Following this incident, Mike is fired over the Armco and into the woods but Paul’s luck is running for him and he is left on the outside of the left hand curve from where he can rejoin the fray. He is still on the tarmac and he stays to the right to keep out of the way of the traffic. Unfortunately he puts a wheel onto the curb and on cold tyres gets into a bit of a wobble that gives Mike Turner a fright as he starts to pull past. The rejoin is reasonable and the only problem is down to loss of control, which was down to cold tyres rather than over ambition, so I will just call for caution on rejoins.
Lap 1 Masta: Ed Harrison and Ian Docherty Lap 2 Pits: Mike Ratcliffe

Moderator's ReportCongratulations to Brendan Wright on a flag to flag victory, demonstrating that he is not only quick but can put a long consistent race together as well. Moderator's ReportCongratulations to Brendan Wright, who is really getting into his stride now; a flag-to-flag victory and his second in a row. He was chased home by Paul Brock and when Alan Walker ran out of fuel on the last lap Paul Bird was able to claim the last podium slot. Not a bad race from my point of view in that it didn’t constitute the three weeks of paperwork that the Rouen race inflicted. Lap1 Start: Alan Walker
Lap 1 Copse: Robert Burton, Ian Docherty, Chris Bull, et al….. Lap 1 Becketts: Robert Burton
Lap 5 Club to Abbey:Dave Lawrence and Richard Kings
Lap 6 Stowe: Robert Burton and Ed Harrison After this incident Burt needs a ShiftR but does not do a SnG. I will not allow a no-fault ShiftR here because I feel that Burt has contributed to the problem. Also, Ed seems to get lost on the way to the pits. Either his engine has given up the ghost or he is out of fuel. Either way, he gets himself in a right state on the inside of Woodcote and retires.
Lap 8 Woodcote: Robert Burton and Dave Lawrence
Lap 13 Hanger Straight: Robert Burton

February 04, 2007, 10:13:00 PM +0000 - Mosport - UKGPL Season 13 (2006-2007) Clubmans | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Moderator's ReportCongratulations to Ben Summers on his first ever UKGPL win after twelve seasons of trying. In the end, it was a close run thing with Paul Brock and Dean Holloway rounded out the top three with Mrs Fujicarparts offering. Lap 1 Turn 2:Ed Harrison and Mike Ratcliffe
Lap 3 Turn 8: Robert Burton and Richard Kings
Lap 5 Turn 8: Alan Walker
L6 Moss: Brendan Wright, Paul Bird and Clive Gardner Brenda now finds himself stuck on the inside between Moss 1 and 2 and facing the wrong way. After one or two minor adjustments he decides to make a break for the inviting looking grass on the outside of the corner. The trouble is that he does not take time to listen for oncoming traffic. He makes such a din with his own engine that even a Ferrari with all its wheels squealing cannot be heard. He then moves slowly across the track, which is where Clive finds him and gives him a thump. The waved yellow flag on the way into Moss indicated that there was a problem and I think that Clive slowed as a result. He was slower than usual at 83 km/hr instead of 88-90km/hr that I found on other laps. I will give him the benefit of the doubt but I think that if he were proceeding such that he was “prepared to stop” he would have been a bit slower still but Brendan did not give him much chance. Brendan had the right idea, given where he found himself but just the execution was lacking and thus a reduced penalty is applied. Lap 6 Moss 2: Ian Docherty, Ian Stanley and Bernie Darwin
Lap 6 Turn 4: Ronan Morgan and Mike Ratters
Lap 9 Moss: Ed Harrison
Lap 11 Turn 8: Bernie Darwin
Lap 15 : Ronan Morgan
Lap 19 Turn 2: Alan Walker, Richard Kings and Ben Summers
Lap 19 Turn 8: Mike Ratcliffe and Richard Kings
Lap 19 T9: Mike Turner and Clive Gardner
Lap 21 Moss 2/3: Ronan Morgan, Richard Kings, Mike Ratcliffe and Alan Walker
I would have no qualms about Ronan’s moving over if he had done it properly and got right out of the way. Instead, he stays on the track and accelerates away in a half hearted manner. Now nobody knows where he is going. As Ronan saunters down the track, the fight for 10th to 12th, which is actually four laps ahead of him rages on in his mirrors. The first one to blink is Mike, who pulls gently over to pass Alan, who is following Ronan, but in doing so runs across the front of Richard. This spun Mike around and stuffed him into the bushes. Alan sees this in his mirrors and probably thinks that both Richard and Mike have perished. Ronan is still in the way; the Ferrari’s dawdle being a match for a Cooper that has had to hesitate at the start of the straight. Alan now edges out to pass Ronan just as Richard who has not appeared in Alan’s mirror and who cannot be heard because of the din the Ferrari is making, pinches a bit too much of the right hand side of the track. I cannot see that Alan did anything wrong, based on the evidence of his mirrors. Furthermore, I think that Richard was just guilty of slight inaccuracy. Mike could have spotted Richard if he had taken a peep in the chase view and the same is true of Alan, although I would probably have thought that Richard had bought-it myself and would not have seen the need either. Whilst Mike was able to continue, Alan and Richard both needed a ShiftR and they duly carried out the required SnG. I think that Ronan’s presence placed severe strains on everybody’s actions and will call for caution and increased use of the F10 button or side view if you can manage it, in heavy traffic situations. It would have enabled everyone to stay in one piece. Mike has pulled over into Richard when he should have known that he was there but I have also reduced this from a 2 place penalty to 1 place due to the Morgan effect.
Start: Dave Lawrence and Richard Kings
Lap 22 Moss 1: Ben Summers and Clive Gardner Lap 22 Turn 2: Dean Holloway
Lap 24-25: Ed Harrison, Ben Summers and Paul Bird Lap 24 T4: Dean Holloway and Ronan Morgan
Lap 25 Turn 3: Alan Walker, Ian Docherty and Ronan Morgan
Lap 25(Leader on lap 25) : Ronan Morgan

Moderator's ReportCongratulations to Clive Gardner on an impressive flag-to-flag win and to Alan Walker and Michael Turner for their fast and consistent drives to fill the rest of the podium. Start: Chris Bull and Dave Lawrence
Lap 2 Curva Grande: Robert Burton, Ian Docherty, Dave Lawrence and Chris Bull
As Burt and Ian are sorting themselves out, Chris and Dave approach Curva Grande. The yellow flag is shown and at this point Dave is on the inside and clearly ahead. Dave appears to slow enough to keep to the inside and proceeds with apparent caution. Seeing the yellow flag, Chris would have been well advised to back off enough to give himself the full width of the track to play with. Instead he stays on the outside of Dave and is then obliged to try to squeeze between Dave and the recovering Burt and just clips him. Lap 10 Curva Grande: Bernie Darwin and Ed Harrison
Following this sequence of events Bernie fails to carry out a SnG to atone for the blown engine.
As Bernie rotates, he could see Ed Harrison approaching on the racing line. No yellow flags were shown so I would not have expected Ed to slow down until the waltzing couple were close enough to make out what they were up to. Bernie allows his car to roll backwards across the racing line and gives Ed no chance of missing him. I think that Bernie should have been hard on the brakes to prevent this instead of allowing his car to roll backwards, presumably in an attempt to give himself an easier exit from the situation. As the innocent party, Ed is allowed a no-fault ShiftR.
Lap 15 Lesmo 2: Ed Harrison and Mike Ratters
Lap 20 Parabolica: Paul Brock
Lap 24: Dave Lawrence

Moderator's ReportAnother good win by Clive Gardner although helped by a massive pile up that embroiled half the field and put an end to Brendan Wright’s challenge. It didn’t do much to help Chris Bull’s chances in third place either but it was good to see him back to his early season form. Lap 1 T2 Esses: Paul Bird and Paul Brock
Lap 2 The Loop: Bernie Darwin and Ian Stanley
Lap 6 The Loop: Ian Stanley, Bernie Darwin and Ian Bassi
Lap 11 T1: Graham Poole, Paul Bird and Bernie Darwin Lap 14 The Loop: Robert Burton and Ian Docherty
Following this incident, both drivers need a reset to continue but whilst I will allow Ian a no-fault ShiftR, on the basis that he was attacked by a rejoining car, Burt should have carried out a SnG but didn’t do so for either reset. I think it must be against his religion.
Lap 18 The Loop: Mike Ratcliffe, Chris Bull and Graham Poole Lap 19 Esses: Ed Harrison et al
Following this incident Mike omits to carry out a SnG. Getting back to Ed, Mike Ratcliffe’s “fine cut” rattled Ed against the Armco and propelled him back across the track. It was a good “safety shot” by Mike as Ed was now hard against the cushion but facing the wrong way, a point of relative safety since he was no longer straddling the racing line. Ed allows Ian Stanley to pass unhindered but I don’t know how much Ian had to pay for this consideration. He then attempts to spin turn between the barriers, which takes him from this position of relative safety on the far outside of the bend and plants him back squarely on the racing line on a blind corner. My own personal preference here would have been to reverse along the Armco and onto the grass from where he could make a safe return to the fray. I have reduced the penalty from three to two places on the basis that he did try to wait until all went quiet before moving but just chose the wrong move. Paul Bird discovers Ed in his new resting place and runs smack bang into him at full tilt, even though a yellow flag was being shown at the entry to the corner.
Paul goes off to attack Mike Ratcliffe in the ditch and then comes to rest blocking the left side of the track just after the corner. Because he is the first obstacle, and because he wisely chooses to stay put until all is quiet, no one else hits him and he is able to continue without any further damage. Dave Lawrence follows Paul and also appears to pay no heed to the yellow flag that the marshal is frantically waving.
Lap 24 0nwards: Ed Harrison
Lap 24 Big Bend: Chris Bull, Dave Lawrence and Graham Poole

Moderator's ReportA smaller field and a good race to mod with very little for me to comment on. As we have come to expect it was a solid flag to flag win for Brendan Wright’s Cooper, on this occasion being chased all the way and kept honest by Bernie Darwin in his Lotus. Alan Walker put in a strong drive in another Cooper to claim the final podium spot and he was being closely followed by Burt and Michael Turner in their Lotuses until they had their contretemps on the penultimate lap. Start: Ian Docherty and Robert Burton
Lap 1 Turn1: Clive Gardner and Ian Stanley
Lap 5 Pits: Clive Gardner
L24 Virage du Parc: Robert Burton and Mike Turner
Following this event, both drivers need a reset but neither is able to carry out a StopnGo as it is the last lap. I will allow Burt a no-fault ShiftR on the basis that he was tackled from behind.

Moderator's ReportOn the face of it, another win for the all conquering Brendan Wright but I believe that the three second penalty that he incurred for a short pit stop will promote Clive Gardner to the top step of the podium. Congratulations to both drivers for some good driving in their first season. Congratulations also to Mike Ratcliffe for his podium finish in this final race of the season; only a few seconds behind the season’s two hot shots. Start : Bernie Darwin and Ed Harrison
Following this incident, Ian Docherty fails to complete a Stop-n-Go.
Start : Dave Lawrence
Lap 2 Schikane: Robert Burton
Lap 9: Robert Burton
