Moderator's Report

Summary
An eventful race on a very tight track. Unfortunately the provisional winner, Alessandro is demoted for a first lap incident so Iestyn emerges as the eventual winner overhauling Sam on the last lap. Fulvio makes it back onto the podium in third place as he resumes his welcome return to UKGPL.

Server replay time: 0h01m08s

Lap 1 - Exit of \"El Angulo\" - Alessandro Isacchini and Tristan Bot
Alessandro has the lead out of \"El Angulo\" but accelerates too hard on cold tyres and his car swerves left. He clips the barrier on the left side of the track, losing him time and momentum. Tristan is very close behind and he seizes the chance to overtake, keeping well to the right he comfortably out accelerates Alessandro. As Tristan pulls along side, Alessandro darts across the track making contact with Tristan\'s car. Alessandro half spins but manages to continue. Tristan slows but GPL\'s overzealous \"collision box\" decides major contact has been made and catapults Tristan into the air. Unfortunately he lands upside down and is out of the race.

What follows is the typical carnage to be expected on a tight enclosed track. All drivers showed consideration and maturity, slowing down carefully in an effort to avoid contact. Unfortunately when cars are in close proximity, even when moving slowly, GPL\'s \"collision box\" has a tendency to register catastrophic contact and on this occasion both Andrew Livingston and Dean Logan were the unfortunate victims of the GPL gods. Andrew came to rest upside down and Dean was marooned on top of the barriers. Both drivers were out of the race.

Tristan did nothing wrong. He was perfectly entitled to attempt the pass and had practically achieved 100% overlap before contact was made.

Having made the mistake, Alessandro should have been more careful. He should have realised that there might be someone attacking him and he should have left room. It is the driver\'s responsibility to ensure the track is clear before they move across. Darting across the track without being sure it is clear is not allowed.

Blatant Side-by-Side contact Penalty 2 places plus 1 extra place for lap 1 incident. - 3 places will put him down to 4th.

  • Alessandro Isacchinipenalty — Blatant Side-by-Side contact - plus 1 extra place for lap 1 incident — 3 places lost

Post Race Note: This ruling may seem harsh on Alessandro, depriving him of a maiden UKGPL victory. But with his obvious speed and skill it won\'t be long before he claims the top spot again. The rules at UKGPL are very clear and have served us well for many years. It is appreciated that drivers new to UKGPL may not be familiar with all the rules or indeed where they are published. All the rules and recommended driver behaviour are published on the UKGPL web site, www.ukgpl.com, under the Rules link below the Navigation banner.

As far as my race goes.  Made a few unforced errors which damaged my suspension.  Tried to get to 50% distance to score points but hit barrier again and lost 2 wheels with less than half a lap to half distance  Sad

Grats to finishers and especially the podium.

...If you have been involved in an incident, submit an incident report...

Will do (as soon as someone bothers to post the replay).

I decided to join with five minutes of qually remaining. I took the last place on the grid. Sorry if I prevented anyone from being able to join. My condolences to those involved in incidents or disconnects. It happens at Montjuic more than other places. This was my first time to drive the small Ferrari. It was a nice drive. The car handled good enough that I could work with it. The tire pressure was too high in the front, but the problem did not flare up until the second half of the race. I was on my own after Phil crashed out. BTW, Good race Phil, tough luck. I don't think that I was quick enough to overtake you. I was just hoping that we could catch the next group of cars in front of us.

Very fun race, managed to sneak 3rd on the grid, after crossing the line with 2 seconds to go in qualifying, for a final lap  angel.

Start went well to T1, then on the exit Alessandro and Tris touched, and I had to brake hard to avoid colliding, as the road was blocked in front. Somehow, Sam and Cookie made it past, as I got through with a few scrapes and nudges struggling to get going in 1st and with the track still pretty much blocked.

Barely hanging on from Clive in the confusion Shocked, I then actually touched Axel in the last corner (a bump draft while braking in a corner! laugh) and Clive passed inside. He then passed Axel, and thus began a mighty train!

Unable to pass, and eating the barrier a few times trying (the last time giving some damage), both of their engines eventually blew and I reeled in Sam, almost bumping Billy in my haste. Another excellent battle, like with Axel; when Sam ran a defensive line, there was no way for me to pass around the outside into T1.

Finally, on the last lap, after throwing everything at it (even down the inside), Sam touched the inside barrier onto the 'backstraight' and I could get by and just about hold it up the hill.

Congrats to Alessandro for a first win at UKGPL, probably the first of many, and also taking mine and Hristo's track records along with it  Cool

Commiserations to those involved in the first lap pile up and to those that had a screen freeze during the race. It's never fun when circumstances take you out of the running early on  Sad.

My race was a pretty decent effort for my standards. Made a good start from 5th on the grid and just about avoided Alessandro's & Tristan's coming together (along with the ensuing chaos behind). That promoted me to 2nd place, though Axel was making me work hard to keep my position. Eventually managed to build a small gap from the Axel, Clive & Iestyn train and drove my own race for the most part Alessandro was in another league (or another series  Wink).

Later on Iestyn found another gear and began reeling me in. With half-a-dozen laps or so I played it defensively and we had a terrific battle for second. All was going well until I clipped the inside-barrier on the last lap, losing just enough momentum to allow Iestyn to pass hammer. Well played Iestyn  Wink.

Congrats to Alessandro for his first win in UKGPL and to all other finishers on this demanding track.

Grats to Alessandro on his win and fast pace.

Yes Iestyn and Axel, that was a great battle ( although I'm still slightly miffed over Iestyn's last second qually lap!!).
The usual Lap 1 carnage around, or just after, T1 at this track produced the expected mess. I got baulked by cars bouncing around in front of me allowing Sam and Axel to sneak through.

I felt that I was quicker on cold tyres, but Iestyn and Axel had more cc's and that worked in their favour in many places until Iestyn tagged Axel at the bottom of the hill and ran wide giving me a gap up the inside...which I took  Wink Then I had Axel's car to contend with and I was pushing him hard. I think that he allowed me to pass? or missed a gear change, but I was through and able to start chasing Sam who I could see up ahead.

It was all going well with Axel and Iestyn coming along for the ride and the gap to Sam was coming down....until one of my pistons decided to part company with the crankshaft. I think that was the result of a couple of fluffed downshifts going into T1, so probably deserved.
Grats to the finishers and commiserations to all the other discos.

Thanks for compliments, it's a emotion win a race with your league
Like wrote before the race there are some problem with fall FPS, I partially solved with lite version of track, so rarely happened in race, sometimes at T6 (Vias turn) and in T1 but this only at the first lap after start, No optimal my guideline through the T1 'cause low fps and I spin after the apex when I heard a light touch but I hoped is not a cause for the Bot's abandonment, sorry if this was a cause
Past the danger of the T1, the only careful were not to kiss the rails.. thanks for race and compliments all drivers that saw the checkered flag and particular mention at the lapped drivers (no sure this word is correct, google trans.. lol) very correctly

p.s. in the replay's folder for download I see only Zolder and Panchine, no this last race

I downloaded the small montjuich version with fixes and no freeze this time. First finish on that track.
It was very lonely, i got stuck in the lap 1 carnage shortly. Some car layed already down,i braked on realising and turned to the left where was more space,
but i touched someones car and spun.

Server replay now available via the link in the race announcement.

I would appreciate some incident reports for the lap 1 pile-up between T1 and T2 complete with CLIENT REPLAYS so the moderating team can see who was affected by warp and lag.  We already have the server replay but any "car explosions" caused by warp, lag or an over-zealous GPL collision box are best examined on client replays.

Pleased to see that several people got around the low FPS (and probably potential screen freeze issues) by using the Lite version of the track.  Probably wise to only use the Hi-Resolution version if you have a very high end system.

I wrote a long race report last night of my extremely short race and deleted before posting.
Basically, me, Dean and Tris were unlucky and everyone else was lucky.
The Ferrari shape seemed to survive better than the open wheelers.

Sixth & a few team points is about as good as it will get for me on a mixed grid. 66 races do seem to have quite a high attrition rate, especially when you throw in a few screen freezes. My connection was fine.
I basically parked up behind the T1/T2 crash fest, waited for a gap & carried on. There was a good battle with Dave R & Fran for much of the race but both lost their engines within a couple of laps. I could just about match Bastian's pace but a spin at T1 meant he was out of sight.

Thanks to those who have submitted a report so far, it does help the moderator to know the drivers perspective of what happened before moderating the race.  I'm hoping for a couple more reports to be submitted before I moderate the race this weekend.  If anyone doesn't know how to submit a report, just click on the link entitled "Submit an incident report" below the race results table and a form will appear.
