On lap 8, EvilClive took a trip into the Libyan desert.
In a first time, he was in full control but, his car still on the sand, he lost again control and cross the track.
Frank Verplanken couldn't avoid him.

Blatant bad rejoin or simple bad rejoin will change nothing as the two drivers didn't finish among the 12 first scoring points.

Season 38 – 1967 F1 WORKS – Round 6 – TRIPOLI

The sixth race in the 1967 Grand Prix series finds us in Libya. We visit the very fast circuit at Mellaha Lake, Tripoli. The track was a 13.140 kilometre (8.165 mi) long affair situated in a salt basin between Tripoli, Suq al Jum'ah and Tajura and around the Mellaha Air Base. The track's most distinctive landmark was a brilliant white concrete tower situated across from a large front stretch grandstand that could hold up to ten thousand people. Mellaha Lake was equipped with starting lights, an innovation, and the additional amenities rivalled the best that continental European circuits had to offer. Back in the late thirties this was the fastest track of the world.

So sorry Andreas  Sad. I saw you coming and just when I thought I had the car under control, it went sideways and across the track. I will put in a report.

I think you mean me rather than Andreas, Clive ? Anyways, it happens.

No setup hurts on this track, so midfield start was all I could get. Took a good start but at the first turn I got a micro freeze and sled on the grass. No damage but restarted last. Back to P8 after a few retirements and a pass. Good fun following Greg in the process, I was hoping to keep him in sight while I nursed the engine temperature, and push harder in the last laps to try and pass him. Wasn't meant to be though  Cry. Three UKGPL starts so far : 1 engine, 1 spin, 1 collision. So I'm guessing disco or something like that next time lol !

Nice to have a full grid ! Thanks hosts.

Well done Raoni, Enrique and Killer.  Wink

Concentration Eagle last night, I had already used it twice so I chose to get rid of the Honda.
Without having driven, I chose a Monza setup and adjusted the gears and forward. I had only one goal, to finish my race.
In the final position 8, it's better than I imagined following the various abandonments on this tricky circuit.
In pursuit of JonnyO in Brabham with a gap of 5s, I will make a mistake and therefore lose contact for more than 15s.
I'm not losing too many points on Killer overall, it's not too bad.

My mistake Frank, I can only remember taking a quick look at Pribluda and seeing Andreas's name just before the incident. I have put a report into the court process...I still feel bad about taking someone else out of the race when it just should not have happened.

Big sorry from me as well, i clipped a stone wall under pressure and
then my car was all over the place in Lap 3. Alex GPl had no chance to avoid me
and went upside down. I could continune with max speed 306 km/h, so no chance
to get back to the field. Last lap that engine blew.

I can take a lot from this race - that's what I can do when I don't make silly mistakes. I can run at a fast pace and finish not too far behind the leader. Downloading the race into replay analyser also showed me I was the 2nd most consistent driver from the standpoint of lap times. That makes me happy. Of course, apart from the first couple of laps where I thought I might be able to overtake Clive I didn't threaten anyone in this race, all my place gains came from the many misfortunes of others, and I had about the 10th fastest lap time... such a shame to see Clive lose it by clipping too much inside kerb I was enjoying trying to work out how to stop you gapping me 50-100 yards per lap. I was less happy about the recovering Greg hunting me down and getting to less than 2 secs at the flag, 1 or 2 more laps and he'd have got me. I seemed to have a similar top speed to those around me, so must be how I handled the slower corners...

I would however like to open a debate about what happens when your engine fails. There are three scenarios:

1. It blows up badly and you are stuck going round at 100mph/160kph until you get to halfway and bag some points.
2. It blows up badly and you are stuck going round at 100mph/160kph for the rest of the race because you want lots of points.
3. It gets damaged and you are losing a few seconds per lap, but still maintaining a reasonable speed.

For 1, and especially #2 could we please outlaw these? In the last few weeks I have had a few occasions where I was coming up to lap someone with absolutely no idea if they had seen me coming, only for them to throw themselves off the track at the last minute - you are not in the race, you have no hope. If you are allowed to continue at all you should drive the lap looking in your mirrors and get out of the way as soon as you see someone. I would remind everyone of Al Pease, the Eagle driver and the only person ever disqualified from an F1 race for being too slow. Isn't everyone in #1 and #2 'too slow' to be on track??

#3 happened to Fulvio and I do not think he did much wrong according to the rules - he stayed on the racing line and allowed others to pass him. However, I looked at how both Greg and I passed him and we both had to lift off the gas at difficult parts of the track to get past him because of the closing speeds. Greg had to take to the dirt, and I had to lift off the gas in the middle of a 200mph section because I didn't know if he'd seen me until he started to go wide to let me by... but a little too late for comfort/to be useful to me. I could have been drafted by the person behind me because of that slow down and I don't think it's fair for someone who is not challenging in the race any more to cause those issues - thoughts?

Note that I am not saying this should happen for slower drivers with no mechanical issues, standard blue flag rules apply, I am simply asking why we need to worry about broken cars that would not continue in real conditions.
