Season 41 1967F1 WORKS – Round 1 – WATKINS GLEN

The first race in the 1967 Grand Prix series series takes us to Watkins Glen in the USA. Watkins Glen International ("The Glen") is an auto race track located near Watkins Glen, New York, at the southern tip of Seneca Lake. It was long known around the world as the home of the United States Grand Prix, which it hosted for 20 consecutive years (1961–1980). In the early years races passed through the heart of the town with spectators lining the sidewalks, but after a car left the road in a 1952 race, killing one spectator and injuring several others, the race was moved to a new location on a wooded hilltop southwest of town. Later a permanent race course was constructed on 550 acres, overlapping part of the previous course. Despite improvements, the circuit became unable to safely handle the increasingly faster and stiffer ground effect cars of the late 70s and a few horrendous, sometimes fatal accidents and increasingly rowdy segments of the crowd began to tarnish its image. Finally, in May, 1981, several months after Alan Jones had won the 1980 race for Williams, the International Auto Sports Federation removed the race from its schedule because the track had failed to pay its debts to the teams

Hi All,

Happy to meet you again.  I have a first comment on the new rules:  It is not actually clear to me how the tokens system works.  What is the initial token amount ? If the initial amount was zero, in which way can I get a car ?

Best Regards

There is a link in the race announcement that takes you to the championship page which has all the rules.  See here.

You get 10 tokens for starting season and 10 tokens for starting the race. A total of 20 tokens so you can have any car.

No worries Bastian, it happens... I was very slow anyway, although I was looking forward to finishing it and getting a few points. I tried to avoid you both times, but made the wrong choice each time  Undecided.

Was running really happily in 8th and then had a lonely accident with the barrier on Lap 36. The Cooper is not so good with just three wheels.  wheelchair

That was a reasonable return for me after a long time out. Only one self-inflicted moment which let Pete past me one lap then I watched him do exactly the same as I'd done next lap. After that it was a fairly lonely second half after hanging onto Jonny for a while. Happy to be consistent... but I fear that GPL will be like my golf game - the longer between rounds the fewer mistakes I remember to commit  angel

I was all running behind Fulvio, waiting for an opportunity but I could never get less than 100m on average. Even so, the disputes were also good with Arf who stayed very close until the middle of the race, I think he made a mistake.
I almost missed the race, a little time confusion, and I arrived with little time to prepare something and decided to go with BRM, so a 6th was great for me Smiley
  Congratulations to the podium!

I was this close to missing the race.
I went with Lotus, very familiar track, so might as well. Qualified 3rd. I got some wheelspin at the start, and I heard the brabham beside me (didn't see anything), so I stayed on my side of the track through the esses and towards the exit Brabham's nose showed up, and with him having a better line he got ahead of me.
But a few laps later he crashed into the outside barriers at the loop, and I was back to 3rd. Second was already disappearing into the distance, when getting out of turn 1 and up the hill, I saw a car on the grass to the right. It was Greg's Ferrari, and now I was second and a very long way to go.
At that point I was 2 seconds ahead of Leo and I was losing close to a second a lap to Tristan. I was essentially doing qually laps for a long time, extending my lead over Leo by a second every 4-5 laps. It grew to 8 seconds when I caught the first backmarkers. It was a couple of BRM's and I lost around 3 seconds getting by them. Soon after I lapped Doni as well, and I could see the track was clear for more than a kilometer in front of me.
With Tristan so far ahead, I just had to make sure I do my own pace, and keep the concentration up, which I managed to do till the end, and scored my best result in GPL in a while.
Congrats Tristan on the win, and Leo on completing the podium.

Now, BRM for the next race Smiley
