Season 41 1967F1 WORKS – Round 8 – OAKES FIELD (NASSAU)

The 8th and final round of the Season 41 takes us to Nassau in the Bahamas. The first Nassau Trophy Road Races meeting for Sports Cars was held in 1954 on the Windsor Field Course. For 1957, the meeting was moved to another airfield location, the 5 mile Oakes Course, which was closer to the main population areas on the island. The new course, despite being quite bumpy in places, was relatively well-received, though there were a number of close shaves near the pits as it was too close to the racing line. To combat this, the race direction of the track was changed to clockwise in 1958. The circuit was also shortened to 4.5 miles by cutting out the original Blackbeard's Bend and Ecky's Twist, whilst a new left-right-left corner combination was built to connect the Sassoon Straight and Bethell's Pass, cutting out the tight hairpin which had previously taken the cars off the runway. Due to much needed track repairs and the lack of additional funding by the Bahamian government, as well as competition from more races running in December, the event was discontinued after the 1966 meeting. It is the clockwise 4.5 mile Oakes Course that we will be using for tonight's race.

Congratulations to the podium, Leo has been hitting the beam for a long time, but this time he did it!
Congratulations to Greg Taber, he was dominant in the championship, constantly keeping great finishes and he was the great deserving of this championship!!!! I hope it continues in 2023!!!
And it was a great surprise the podium of the championship with the 2nd of Phill and the third position of my friend Doni !!! I'm very happy for you!
This race I had the 3rd place with a good margin until the fatigue dominated me in the last laps where I constantly made mistakes in the last 5 laps, in fact Alain and I, it was a festival of errors for both pilots!!!!

Congratulations to Greg on the championship (subject to modding). Sorry I couldn't be with you to try to win the title but I've been in hospital since Wed with an infected gall bladder; hopefully I'll be home tomorrow. I'm pleased to have held onto P2 in the championship and pipped my mate Doni in our private battle for once.

I'm surprised too JonnyO, this has been one of my most competitive seasons. I would say my result confounds the saying "You can't teach an old dog new tricks", but at 62 I'm not that old for a GPL'er  wheelchair

Thanks to Axel for hosting the race in my absence.

Get well soon, Phil !
Congratulations for your final P2 with the Works !
I remember several years ago when we were fighting for the Privateers title.
Now, you are one the best and more regular Works and I am only P3 with the Privateers ...

HI Wink
Congratulation Greg it's deserved, bravo !...
I miss the start :/ ....it was a bad start for the last one :/....but when I caught up B.Grupp , he was not determined to let me pass although I was 4s faster than him in practice !?...and that I was playing for a place on the final podium ....ultimately I am able to over take him, but he hit me on the next turn !!...( thanks Bastien , good fair racing ! ) ....then I fly out track and loose all chance to move up the rankings .....slightly annoyed I try anyway....after few laps I caught up again B.Grupp but my engine is dying , maybe because of the hit/fly/landing !?...
so with 4 white results it's not enough even with 3 wins I miss the final podium for 1 pt !...

The next time you appeared, i slowed down on the straight to let you pass, but then you disseapeard.

Main problem seems to be you missed the start, anyway ?

Perhaps a look in the mirror is needed? I didn't have anytime for practice, so I just went into the race blind. I was just looking to finish the race and score some points, to at least keep my place in the championship. I saw Tristan was last for whatever reason, and when you caught up I tried to let you trough, but you clipped my wheel right off, retirement on the spot for me. If I just finish the race last, that's second place in the championship for me. Not necessarily deserved on speed, but still. I wasn't going to mention it, but in light of your post attacking another driver, I felt I had to. Just because you're faster doesn't mean everyone should get out of your way. I've had some incidents with you, like last year in Brazil where you got a 3 place penalty for it. Maybe you should reconsider how you drive when actual people are around you on the track.

Great race, Greg and congratulations for the championship, Phil and Doni!

Greg wanted to crown his championship with a win and we were close racing all the way. It kept me concentrated to the end and looks like I had just a bit extra to keep in front without the need to overdrive. I felt the need to this last round as a statement as I couldn't dedicate time to UKGPL this second semester. Hope to be more around here next semester and finally my fist one here Jonny.  clap

Get well soon Phil an thank you UKGPL for hosting us!

well Syd , you try to let me pass by "not accelerating out of a corner while staying on the racing" line when you know that I am just behind you !!!!?Huh??I think it 'is the best way to cause a accident .....what an idea !!.....I try to avoid you but sutch improbable maneuver is inévitable , you are supposed to accelerate out of the curve, not slow down, if you want to slow down, move off the racing line!!!....is it so difficult to do ??... Finally, when you make a mistake, do not incriminate the other ...

Precious little time to reply these days as the travails of moving house are still very much prominent.  Ghastly, just ghastly.

Grats on the victory, Leo!  'Bout time!  Smiley

A fine P2 for Greg who also cops the season title as champ!  Well done, GT!  Don't think I've ever seen one individual claim two titles in the same season and I've been with this club since 2009.  A precedent has now been set which will be very hard to match let alone better.

A good job by Bob to score the final podium placing.  Well done.

My Latin buddy, Jonny, comes home P4 after some dramas.  Good show, JJ.

A lucky P5 for me as Alain coughed up the place with barely a lap to run.  Bad luck there, AM.  The points difference between P5 & P6 were enough for me to claim a tidy P3 in the title race.  Quite pleased with that.

Sorry to see that Phil was a DNE and now we now why.  Horrors!  Phil, please do have a quick and full recovery, mate.  You were missed.

My thanks to the club for organizing and hosting.  As always, a show not to be missed.  Best of the season to all!  Smiley
