Moderator's Report

Andreas runs wide into Repco after arriving a little too quickly on cold tyres with a full tank of fuel. Bastian sees the gap and hugs the inside line and keeps the car under control with his right-hand wheels hugging the grass. He maintains this line throughout the corner. Andreas continues on the wider line until the cars are side by side. There is a visible gap of about 30cms at the point of contact - an example of the GPL collision box being larger than the cars. The cars are side by side. Collision could have been avoided if Andreas had kept to the left as Bastian had already made a legitimate move to pass him on the inside.

Warp contact - RACING INCIDENT

Advice: Car on the outside should allow room for warp contact.

Racing incident.

Reminder to all driver to take it easy on cold tyres with full fuel. No penalties.

Season 43 - Mixed Open Wheel    Round 1 : 1965F1  Phillip Island 1967

Welcome to Phillip Island. This fantastic track is our season-opener and promises to be very competitively fought in the 65 cars. Phillip Island is off the south coast of Australia, about 90 miles south of Melbourne. It hosted the Australian Grand Prix between 1928 and 1935 on a rectangle of public dirt roads. There wasn't a bridge to the island until 1940, so the cars were ferried across. The permanent Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit was opened in 1956. Unfortunately, the track surface broke up easily and the 6 ton weight limit on the bridge meant that heavy tarmac laying equipment couldn't access the island. The track deteriorated, but a new bridge opened in 1969 and the track was refurbished. It closed again, but was redeveloped in 1988 into what is still in use today. Phillip Island regularly hosts Superbikes and Australian Touring Cars (now called V8 Supercars), but never F1 cars.

Pro Drivers are reminded that they may NOT choose any car from Groups 7,8, or 9. Please follow the link below to the Championship pages for more details. There is no need to declare your GROUP until after this frist race. A list of PRO and AMATEUR drivers will appear here soon.

I am not able to join in the race today. It's too bad because I had a fun practice session Sunday night after the other race. See you all in the next one I hope.

Grats to the podium and all finishers.

Personally, race that I would rather forget. I cannot recall a race where I made so many stupid errors and had needless incidents  Undecided, especially in a 65 car. I must be getting old (er).

If you want finish first you have to finish first.

After my pole at the very last moment and the following good start, I quickly got under pressure from the very fast Coopers of Tris and Axel. The reason: after only 4 laps both front tyres started to overheat extreme (up to 131 ºC) !!!! It was very clear to me with this impossible horror set-up – I better should have tested it before – I would have no chance to keep the lead, but I tried as good as I can Wink and because my followers drove into each other's cars I could carry my lame Honda against the one second (per lap!) faster Coopers to the finish. Lucky win in the end.

I wasn't even sure I'd enter this opening round in the Libre series as quite frankly, I have a burning dislike for the venue.  Made unnecessarily difficult with the 'up the hill with a blind corner following' nonsense with multiple apexes thrown in for good(Huh)measure.  It's right up there with St. Jovite in that regard, imo.  BLAH!

Didn't even bother to qualify and considered only going to half distance to secure some points however few but after 12 laps, still felt fresh so decided to continue.  Had some fun in the early laps to keep me interested with Billie harassing my tail in his Ferrari.  Sorry to have lost touch with you there, Billie.

Noted from the replay cap the Evil Clive had a start worthy of Don Garlits but it soon all went sour as he fell back to be the next man ahead of me well down the field.  On the very last lap, he fell off the road to hand me P10 but I didn't want to steal points from him so soft-pedaled it off the last corner to let him by but he, too, backed off to let me take the place.  TY, Evil.

Glad this one is done.  On to Blandford...

PS: Pete...  Please assign me to Group #1.  Nobody else seems to have selected it so I will.
