24th and last lap
Contact between Baab and Doni at the exit of "Nouveau Monde"
.
During the two last laps Baab made several mistakes and Doni could close the gap

On the 24th lap, Baab went wide at the hairpin « Nouveau Monde » and Doni had the opportunity to overtake on the inside. Doni stayed on his own side at the exit and did nothing wrong.
There was no real contact side by side (and abolutly no rearending) but rather an usual trouble with GPL crashbox.

Please note: The server is running the papyrus original Rouen track. NOT the recent update. They are different. Don't try to join the server with the updated Rouen, you will "explode" when joining the track as the pits are different.

For that reason I decided not to qualify, but it was almost the same for me anyway. Grin

Zig Zag Farina?HuhHuh? That is just sour grapes. I was taking the racing line into that corner and you just ran into me. Very unsporting comment

Of course, my race was totally spoiled by the news I shared just before the start of the race, so I messed up the start and wasn't able to drive at the pace I had done in practice....

That was a tough race. I qualified well but ruined my chances by failing to select first gear at the start Roll Eyes. Consequently I nearly blew the motor on the line  Shocked. Luckily I didn't lose any pistons only places. I tried to hang on to Dulima and Bob but I was pushing too hard and eventually I made a mistake and dropped back. I made another mistake at about 3/4 distance and dropped back behind Doni and Pete. I pushed hard again and got one place back when Pete went wide but I couldn't get back past Doni.

Apart from the top two, we were all very evenly matched so the difference between us in the end was mistakes. There is a very high standard of driving in the Works at the moment. I suspect next season is going to be just as close!

first of all arf, I apologize for the accident, it was totally my fault, I braked later and ran over you.....
The zig zag thing was a comment of annoyance that I made due to the accident,,, so I reiterate my apology arf

A little sad to come to the end of the championship, it's always fun to race here, old friends!!!!
Rouen is a track where I don't have much freedom, I think it's too narrow for my flashy tangency style.
Even so, I was happy for the second half in qualy after only 4 laps. I forgot Phill's warning about not using the new version of the track, a shame, I really wanted to race with the new look.

In the race, at first I thought I could keep up with our champion's pace, but it was useless, I never got into the 55s range, a time that Greg could do whenever he wanted, he managed his advantage and I miserably couldn't get any closer, in the last third Greg He accelerated and opened up a comfortable lead.

In fact, I was happy to be accelerating all the time without losing concentration and regularly running at around 56....57, Rouen is a narrow track with curbs and grass that make it spin if the slightest mistake is made.

Congratulations on the podium DuLima, you had a great season.
And congratulations to Doni for the runner-up, it was great to see Doni competing for his chances in the entire championship.

A better race than my result suggested!  With about 3 laps to go I was in 3rd with a healthy gap on Dulima but then I lost it at T1 after having somehow built up to it over several laps, my issues there getting worse over the previous  4 or 5 laps!  The resulting spin was a long one which took a while to recover from, which let Dulima by.  I stupidly then tried to chase him down which caused another off the next lap bringing me into Doni's clutches.  Braking a bit too deep at new world I ran slightly wide and Doni clattered me, spinning me round.  I had to sit there whilst the cars behind Doni went by, dropping me to 7th (@Phil, perhaps you should have tried the same move, very effective!).  For good measure I lost it at the final corner, ripped a wheel off and stopped metres from the line!  Somehow a fitting end to a mediocre season!

Cheers for the Orga and have a good Christmas everyone.

Bravo to our podium finishers!  Greg a solid win enroute to a thoroughly deserved championship title.  Well done, sir.  Jonny a fine fighting P2 chasing Greg all the way and not far off the pace.  Eddie takes P3 after a fine drive.  Top marks to all three.

I toyed with the idea of running an Eagle, Ferrari or Lotus for this finale but settled on the trusty Brabham.  Better the devil you know...

Quite pleased with my pre-race trials in shaving off a couple of hundreds of a second from my previous BT24 best.  In qualifying, even better but only good for a P9 grid slot.  I didn't get the greatest launch but held steady down to T1 allowing Pete to keep the place.  Drama straight away as Axel loops it on the exit of T1.  A bit of a tense moment as I navigated through the tyre smoke.  For many a lap, I chased Colin's Ferrari closely til he spun joining the back straight and handed me P6.  I had a discrete distance to Phil up ahead and Pete following.  Lap15 and Phil has an off in Sanson and I'm up to P5.  Better and better.  Pete is pressuring from behind in his Lotus only a few seconds back.  Phil, too, is looking to recover and reclaim P5.  As we get into the final frames, I'm obliged to ramp things up as Pete is definitely closing in.  Lap17 and I send my pulse and blood pressure to the Moon with a bungled turn-in at T1 mounting the curb and getting the BT24 sideways to the point that I'm astonished that I saved it.  This lets Pete close in by a good two seconds.  Up ahead on this very lap, Eddie has overshot the Nouveau Monde letting Baab through for P3.  Lap20 and Phil passes Pete to have his sights set on me only a handful of seconds up the road.  The 'Phil & Doni Show, Redux' is on the cards.  Phil is closing down forcing me to up the pace even more to the point that it's getting decidedly uncomfortable.  Lap22 and horrors for Baab.  From his tidy P3 placing, he suffers a major spin in T1.  Eddie is by and away looking to claim that final podium place.  But wait, there's more...

LAST LAP - A HOLLYWOOD SCRIPT

Baab's efforts are just going horribly wrong as he spins in T2.  I'm close enough to challenge as we enter Nouveau Monde.  Now the thing is, I don't use Pribluda for live-timing or scoring.  Just my pitboard as was the case back in the day.  This Ferrari up ahead was going very slowly at first sight and could well have been a backmarker for all I knew.  The red car went a little deep into the hairpin leaving a lane open down at the curb.  I kept low and tight but there was contact as we swept through the corner.  I could see the Ferrari backwards in my mirrors.  I certainly got a fright but kept my cool and ran the Brabham hard for the balance of lap making it to the line for a surprise P4 finish just ahead of Phil who wasn't that far ahead of Pete.  PHEW!  Talk about drama!  But wait, there's more...

Colin and Ricky had a mighty shunt going into the Nouveau Monde on this last lap to spoil there races.  Bad luck, chaps.  Andreas is having a very slow lap with what appears to be a short-fill of fuel.  He manages to eek out the last drops from the tank to claim a P9 finish.  Clay, too, has a very slow last lap and stops just millimetres from the SFline to lose a place.  Axel started this last lap in P11 and took P8 at the flag!  LOL!  Baab's cruel luck was not finished.  He spun in the final corner to prune off a rear wheel and lose all drive.  Goodness me...  A P10 finish is scarcely a fitting reward for so many laps right on the money.  Hollywood would never believe it.

As noted, Greg is our S43 GP67 Works Champion.  To finish P2 in the standings to such a hot shot is no shame at all.

Thanks to the club for organizing.  See you for S44!  Smiley

Just an addition to Doni's last lap drama:

I was hard chasing the two and nearly caught them when "Colin and Ricky had a mighty shunt going into the Nouveau Monde "
- I thought "now just easy to the finish line" ....  and my engine died some meters before the last corner.
Thankfully I had enough momentum to roll the last ~600m to the line,  wondering why Andreas had not caught me  Grin

Yes, a big congrats to Greg for the well earned multiple Championships in UKGPL  punk

Congratulations Jonny and Eduardo! Nice job gentlemen.

Jonny did well.He was able to stay about 3 seconds behind me for a long time. This was mostly a case of driving just fast enough to win. I sure wasn't up to the task of taking much pressure this time. I struggled with consistency and abused my left rear tire many times.

I used this race to make changes to my setup. I was pleased I got within 0.1 seconds of my fastest lap. I was tempted to change my ramp angles to 45/60/1 from 60/60/1 at the end of qualifying. I was getting too much wheel spin but I thought the ramp angle change might cause me problems. I'll have to check that soon. If I can make my setup better I think I can do high 1:54s. I can't help but wonder if my old setup would have been more consistent.

It looks like it was a rather interesting race for many others.

I like Rouen. It was the first track I drove something other than a Lotus or Ferrari. I used it as my test track for at least a few months when I first started driving GPL.

Congratulations to Doni and Jonny for the other podium spots in the championship! It's a bit of a shame Axel missed the podium, but it's good too see Jonny salvage a difficult season. Doni is still determined and a consistent finisher. It's only the last year or two I started thinking I'm a better driver than Doni. A lot of that probably has to do with Doni's age. For years I may have been faster than Doni, but I didn't think I was any better because my consistency was not as good and my nerves weren't as steely as his. From the earliest of my online races, I often thought, if I get as consistent and wise as Doni, I'll be somewhat good at this sim.

I might miss the next Works season. I want to reduce my online racing time some so I can spend more time on beta testing. I expect to run one 67 championship and one mod championship next year. The 4 championship seasons and beta testing this year was a little more driving than I want to do.

Thanks for letting me race this season. It was a lot of fun. I am lucky to be champion. We had two drivers absent for a lot of the season and at least a few others that had very bad seasons. I am happy that I drove well enough that nobody could have been absent or made many mistakes if they wanted to finish ahead of me in the championship.

Congrats everybody!

Grats to Greg on the Championship, well deserved through the whole season.

For me, a season to forget. With far too many rookie mistakes and more DNF's than I can ever recall having. I think I will blame old age!!  wheelchair wheelchair
