Moderator's Report

Lap 1, 01:46, Nev Richard and Jernej Zorec

Nev tries to rejoin the track, but loses control whilst applying too much throttle when two wheels were still on the grass and unfortunately collects Jernej.

Racing incident.

Lap 4, 07:38, Hristo Itchov and Jure Kalisnik.

Really this does not need mentioning, as no contact was made between them. But as there was a public debate and both drivers were upset about the incident. I feel I should report my view.

Jure gets a run on Hristo and pulls alongside before the braking point. Both drivers go for the bend with care for each other, but to compete for that bend. Both take to the grass with Hristo unfortunately damaging his car and unable to continue. In my view both drivers had the right to contest the bend and no blame is attached to either. A similar incident was at the same bend for Malc and John Bradbury a little later at 11:06, this again, unfortunately, saw the demise of Malc.

Racing incident.

Moderator's Report

Please note. Nat Wald and Oren S ShiftR'd on lap 6 at the hairpin and so were retired at that point. Time was 11 minutes 14 seconds into the race.

Start, Kevin Williams, Hristo.

Gasper Lednik gets a run on Alan Wallace who bogs down in the Honda slightly. Gasper tries to go between Malc and Alan, but the space narrows, Gasper eases off and swings across the track. This unsettles Kevin and makes him brake, Hristo is caught by surprise and rearends Kevin. Kevin has to ShiftR and duly does a stop and go at the end of lap one.

Racing incident.

Lap1, Hairpin, Gasper Lednik and Alan Wallace

As all the drivers were still bunched up and being careful, their negotiation of the hairpin was much slower than race pace. Gasper didn't make enough allowance for this and approached too fast, realizes it, swings to the right to miss Alan. In doing so Gasper puts two wheels on the grass, loses control slightly and with less traction T-bones Alan.

This offence is taken to be the same as a rear end shunt and carries a two place penalty plus another one place for 1st lap offence (should take more care on lap 1). I reduce the penalty due to the loss of full control.

Lap1, 01:44, Gasper Lednik and Hristo.

Gasper loses control and collects Hristo.

Racing incident.

Lap6, Hairpin, Nat Wald, Oren S and Chris Darkes.

[As I was involved in this, two other mod's made the following decision.]

Nat outbrakes himself & rearends OS into the hairpin.

The penalty is reduced due to Oren being unusually slow turning in for the hairpin. Oren and Nat ShiftR here and so both are now considered retired from the race.

  • Nathan Waldpenalty — Rear end shunt — retired at the point of offence — 1 place lost
  • Oren S — Illegal Shift-R — retired at the point of offence

Lap6, Hairpin, Nat Wald and Chris Darkes.

As I was involved in this two, other mod's made the following decision.

Nat's car is flung into the air & lands upside down off the track. Had he remained there or retired the other cars would have been fine, but he would not have been able to see or hear anything from the cockpit due to the static. A quick check from the F10 view would have allowed him to see that his car was not in a dangerous position. I don't think the position of his car was Nat's concern though, as he immediately reset so couldn't have had time to check anyway.

Since shift-R is only allowed from the pits after L1 Nat is retired at the point of offence. However when he reset his car appeared partly on top of Chris Darkes', resulting in a blown engine & retirement for Chris. Although Nat caused this second incident after his retirement from the race a penalty still needs to be applied just as for any other incident. Given how soon after landing he reset I don't see any mitigating circumstances other than the fact that gpl should not have let him reset. 2 place penalty (bad rejoin) to Nat in addition to the above (reduced from 3)

  • Nathan Waldpenalty — Bad rejoin — 2 places lost

Lap11, End of long straight, Gasper Lednik and John Roberts.

Gasper rejoining track wanders across track squeezing John Roberts, who then has to back away from a passing attempt.

When you go off the track, you have lost the right to contest your position till you are up to race speed. You should also stay on the side of the track you rejoin from.

I saw several instances of this from Gasper and one from another driver. I take a dim view of this and will be watching out for it in other master races. This is not the kind of driving I expect from league drivers.

Lap14, End of long straight, Gasper Lednik and John Roberts.

Gasper leaves his braking too late and rear ends John Roberts.

Moderator's Report

Lap2, Hairpin, John Roberts and Chris Darkes.

John brakes late for the Hairpin and runs wide. Chris takes a tight line and draws alongside, John recovers and clearly does not consider the concrete as part of the track and moves across towards Chris. Meanwhile Chris is moving towards John believing he would be on the concrete (privileged info, hehe). Four Mods viewed and the majority vote has gone for neither driver at fault. Here follows a fine example from Paul Harrington.

I would tend to be lenient here. Both drivers were at roughly the same speed, both were well on the track when contact occurred, both moved across the track and neither seemed to be aware of the other. One question to ask is, at what point is John allowed to race? I'd say it's when he's up to speed, and IMO he was. Also, how could he know that he was taking the racing line from Chris? Therefore I'd go with a racing incident.

Verdict - Racing incident

Lap2, Esses, Nathan Wald, John Bradbury and Florian Roehn.

John brakes too late and slides wide off the track, bounces back across and half spins, collecting Nat and Florian. John is out of control until the half spin, so this is the only thing to question and also did Nat and Florian take enough care whilst approaching.

John tries to keep well left, but the half spin is not perfect and catches Nat out. Even so, no blame is given to John. Under the circumstances John did the best he could with only loss of control being the problem.

Nat slows and seems to be ok on his line but with John's unexpected half spin catching Nat out. With hindsight, Nat should have been able to avoid by giving John a little more room. Even so, from Nat's view everything looked ok till the half spin and so, no blame is given to Nat.

Florian reacted with enough care and so is just a casualty of the incident.

Verdict - Racing incident.

Nathan Wald Shift R's on Lap 2 at the Esses and so has retired at this point.

  • Nathan Wald — Retired at point of Shift R — retired at the point of offence

Lap5, Hairpin, John Bradbury and Malc.

John enters his braking zone for the hairpin with left hand wheels on the slippy stuff, loses control and t-bones Malc rounding the Hairpin.

Racing incident.

Moderator's Report

Lap1, Start, Philippe Schyns, Gasper Lednik, Alan Wallace, Mick Chapman and Az Edwards.

Az moves over far right and slows slightly before swinging off the track, this surprises Gasper and he has to slow and veer left. Gasper is then hit by Philippe. Alan and Mick get collected.

No blame is attached to Gasper or Philippe as they could never anticipate the slowing down of Az. Az could have and should have continued accelerating till after the swing off the track, this would have saved any incident. Az was just trying to stay out of the way due to his first race in this season of Masters, so only advice will be given and no penalty.

Racing incident.

Lap1, T1, Steve Eymann, Jernej Zorac, Malc and Chris Darkes.

Steve slows to maintain his gap with the car in front, Jernej brakes and gets tapped by Malc. On my replay this makes Malc go from 46 MPH to 18 MPH in around 1/10th of a second. I hit Malc and we both go off the track. Malc is the real loser here, gets stuck on the tyres, has to Shift R and then makes a stop and go in the pits.

Here is the verdict from Paul Harrington:

The crash is caused by all the drivers being too close, not just Malc and Chris. The Lotus ahead of Malc gets a bit too close to the BRM in front, has to slow almost to a stop and Malc is too close to avoid a collision. Malc stopping suddenly on the contact catches Chris out who rear ends him.

I think it's impossible to blame just Malc and Chris here. Chris should be absolved of blame anyway because Malc slows after contact with the car in front, but all the drivers ahead of Malc were a bit too close to react - Malc just got unlucky in the concertina. At the end of the day it was only Malc and Chris who lost out, so I think a penalty is unnecessary. I think I would issue a general warning to all drivers to leave a bit more room in the future.

Racing incident.

Lap5, T1, Philippe Schyns and John Roberts.

Philippe crashes into the arnco, bounces out and taps John.

Racing incident.

Lap7, T1 exit, John Bradbury and Nathan Wald.

John gets a tank slapper exiting T1 and Nathan cannot avoid him. John is sent into a spin losing the lead.

Racing incident.

Moderator's Report

Note. Alan Wallace does two Shift R's with two stop and go's, but fails to wait the stipulated 25 seconds. This being multiplied 3 times would make him finish behind Malc.

Lap1, Turn2, Nev, John Bradbury and many more.

John drifts wide at T1, virtually all tyres on the grass but loses little speed, Nev goes for a pass at Turn two but is being squeezed by John. Nev has his right wheels on the grass and then drifts across to the middle of the track and hits John.

John would not have known where Nev was, but Nev had full vision, so I put most of the blame at Nev. I reduce the penalty due to the tight grid.

Lap1, Turn2, Florian Roehn and Gasper Lednik and many more.

This is a similar accident to the one above with Gasper replacing John and Flo replacing Nev.

  • Florian Roehnpenalty — Side by side contact — 1 place lost

Lap1, end of lap pit stop, Mick Chapman and Florian Roehn.

Flo does a Shift R in the pits and Mick gets a warp hit.

This happens again later with Malc and Alan. It would not normally happen so no penalty will be given

Racing incident.

Lap 10, 0:12:27, Alan Wallace and Clive Loynes.

Clive loses the back end and collects Alan (becomes a big loser here after being in a good position)

Racing incident.

Lap 10, 0:12:50, Alan Wallace and Malc.

Alan performs a Shift R and Malc is hit even though Malc is well left and Alan is put on the other side of the track.

I cannot give any penalty as this should not have happened if GPL and the internet had done what it normally does.

Racing incident.

Lap 13, Final turn, Gasper Lednik and Malc.

Gasper rejoining track moves over the track and hits Malc.

  • Gasper Lednikpenalty — Bad rejoin — 3 places lost (plus 2 for penalty points)

Lap 16, Allan Davis

Ignored blue flags for 15 turns from lap 16 to lap 19. Holding the leader (Oren S) behind him.

  • Allan Davispenalty — Ignoring blue flags — 2 places lost

Lap 34, final turn, Chris Darkes and Gasper Lednik.

As I was involved in this one, I thank Paul Harrington for giving this ruling:

Gasper slides a bit wide, and so just winds on an armful of lock on until the speed drops and the front end bites. Chris sees an opportunity and dives for the gap down the inside, but it is never really big enough and they collide as Gasper comes back onto the racing line. Chris never gets fully alongside and he loses out as a result of the collision.

I think this was a hopeful move on Chris's part and he should have held back. Gasper didn't change his steering angle so I can't blame him for turning in on Chris. My verdict would be a 2 place penalty for an ambitious overtake reduced by 1 place because Gasper slid wide and left a small gap and because Chris didn't gain a place.

  • Chris Darkespenalty — Ambitious overtake — 1 place lost

Lap 48, T1, Malc and Oren S.

Malc loses the back end and collects Oren.

Moderator's Report

Lap1,T1, Philippe Schyns and Dave Nicol.

Dave slows to be cautious through the first turn, but this catches Phillippe out and he runs into Dave.

Lap12, T1, Jure and Dave Nicol.

Dave tries to outbrake Jure, Dave turns in too tight and hits the inside curbing. This throws Dave out into Jure. Dave then waits for Jure to recover and pass before driving away.

Racing incident.

Lap14, T1, Dave Nicol and Allan Davis.

Allan takes a defensive inside line into turn one with Dave making an outbraking outside line. Allan maintains a tight inside line, but Dave gets too close and receives a warp tap.

Dave is at fault here, getting too close to Allan. Dave is the only one affected and it was a warp incident, so no penalty is required.

Racing incident.

Lap20, T1, Jure and Dave Nicol.

Dave loses control slightly under braking and rear ends Jure.

Penalty is reduced for Dave's loss of control being a contributing factor.

  • Dave Nicolpenalty — Rear end shunt — 1 place lost

Lap 25, T1 to T2, Nathan Wald and John Roberts.

John exits turn one, eases off the throttle and pulls across to the right edge of track to let Nat (leader) pass. This catches Nat by surprise and he barely misses John, but John gets a warp tap sending him off the track.

Racing incident.

Moderator's Report

Lap 1, Start, Dave Wilkinson, John Roberts and John Bradbury.

Dave moves over slightly towards John Roberts who also moves over towards Dave. Contact is made sending them both into a spin and John Bradbury gets collected.

Both drivers were reacting to what they saw ahead, the track narrowing. John moves further over to Dave, but Dave should have been more aware of John, as he was passing him. I do not think either driver should get a penalty, I just ask them to be more careful in future.

Racing incident.

Lap1, T1, Mick Chapman and Clive Loynes.

Mick passes the above incident of spinning cars, misses his braking point and runs into Clive.

I see no bad intent here, Mick was just distracted by the spinning cars. Due to this I reduce the penalty to a warning.

Lap 4, 0:26:40, Nathan Wald and Steve Eymann.

Nathan loses control whilst leading, contacts the hedge pops back out knocking Steve off the track.

Nathan is out of control at the time of the incident.

Moderator's Report

Lap 1, Turn 1, Multi-car pile up.

Lot of good driving into T1, Swetlan Swift and Chris Darkes on an outside line moved too far over towards the inside and had warp contact, this causes the pile up.

Verdict - Racing incident.

Moderator's Report

With only a few reported incidents to look at (and those was from drivers who were worried that they may have caused problems for others). I ruled all as racing incidents.

So the results stand as posted.
