Moderator's Report

Summary

A good start to the season, although the numbers were a bit low (summertime and the "Mexico" effect, perhaps?). However, a great race at the front with Hristo chasing Clive for me to watch - well done chaps, I really enjoyed it (wish I could drive like that)!

Lap 1 Kruger Enge and Syd Drake

A warpy Kruger has gone wide and is coming off the armco as Syd arrives in a four wheel drift (a consequence of a bit of leery braking and a minor grass excursion). Just as Syd's Lotus decides to stop sliding there's contact between them which ends Kruger's race. The contact looked as if it was going to be minor, and was exacerbated by Kruger's warp (which is particularly bad on Syd's replay), so I'm calling this one a:

Warp Incident

Lap 1 Allan Davis and Nigel Bradbury

Nigel follows the traffic in front and takes a tight line into the polos on the right-hand side of the track. Allan goes left and gets alongside at they enter the chicane. Nigel takes a normal line through the chicane and they collide, which ends his race. Allan saw a reasonable chance to get by here, and took it. From Nigel's perspective there was every chance that Allan had got alongside, and taking a racing line through the chicane was ill-advised, so this one is down to him.

  • Nigel Bradburypenalty — Side-by-side contact — 2 places lost

Summary

Congratulations to Lorenzo for a faultless drive and a well-earned victory. A very clean race, with only 2 incidents.

Lap 3 Hristo Itchov and Ken Murray

Ken goes wide at Sunset, Hristo spots the gap on the inside and makes for it. Ken stops sliding and starts to move back towards towards the inside, with warp dealing the final blow and putting them both off and out of the race. Ken knew where Hristo had gone and was ill-advised to move the car back towards the right. I've reduced the penalty by one place as the incident may not have happened at all but for the warp.

  • Ken Murraypenalty — Side-by-side contact — 1 place lost (plus 1 for penalty points)

Lap 7 Allan Davis, John Robert and Clive Loynes

Allan is being closely followed by John, Clive then Ryk. His engine dies on the approach to Jukskei Sweep. John cannot avoid rear-ending him, with Clive subsequently side-swiping John (amazingly Clive's car appears to drive through John's, but he emerges pretty much unscathed from the contact apart from a slight twitch from the car).

Moderator's Report

Summary

Another win for Hristo, who manages to get past John Bradbury after John makes a small mistake early on. A fantastic battle for first place ensues, with all the front runners providing me with plenty of racing excitement.

Another clean race, with only two incidents worthy of comment.

Lap 1 Kruger Enge and Jason Daborn

Jason goes off at T10, which allows Kruger to close. As they approach T11, Kruger makes a move for the inside, but he there's contact as Jason takes a racing line for the corner. An attempted overtake at this point really wasn't on, and he is therefore at fault here.

As this is the first lap, there is an additional 1 place penalty.

  • Kruger Engepenalty — Ambitious overtake — 3 places lost (plus 1 for penalty points)

Lap 25 John Bradbury

John goes wide at T12 and ends up perpendicular to the track, with his back wheels still on the tarmac. He briefly spins the wheels in reverse, apparently trying to get the car pointed in the right direction, slamming the brakes on in the nick of time and narrowly missing Syd's passing Ferrari. Driving forwards onto the grass was the right thing to do here.

Summary

A stunning victory by John Bradbury, who (after an initial tussle with Lorenzo) wins by a very large margin. There was also plenty of out-braking entertainment for me at the Jungle Lord's corner.

Once again, another very clean race, with only one incident worthy of mention.

Lap 17 Allan Davis and Neil Stratton

Allan ends up on the bank at Tarzanbocht, but as he rejoins heads back towards the inside of the corner, narrowly missing Kruger and colliding with Neil.

  • Allan Davispenalty — Bad rejoin — 2 places lost (plus 4 for penalty points)

Moderator's Report

Summary

A superb victory by Lorenzo driving a Honda no less. Perhaps he can give me some lessons...? Another pretty clean race, with 4 incidents worthy of review.

Lap 1 John Bradbury and Hristo Itchov

John's Cooper slides wide at Old Hall, which catches Hristo out. He's unable to avoid, and taps John's rear, spinning the Cooper out.

Racing Incident

Lap 1 Clive Loynes, Allan Davis and John Roberts

Clive slows when he sees John's spinning Cooper, and is then rear-ended by Allan who is following too closely. John Roberts is unable to avoid Allan's car which is now across the track and he hits him. This one is down to Allan, although I've waived the additional first lap penalty as Clive slowed more than Allan could've reasonably predicted.

  • Allan Davispenalty — Rear end shunt — 1 place lost (plus 5 for penalty points)

Lap 7 Ken Murry and Kruger Enge

Kruger brakes a little later than normal and goes wide at Knickerbrook. Ken is close behind but he goes into the corner a little faster than normal and hits Kruger's offside-rear.

  • Ken Murraypenalty — Rear end shunt — 1 place lost (plus 2 for penalty points)

Lap 27 Jason Daborn and Kruger Enge

Kruger brakes earlier than normal into Druids. Unfortunately, he is being closely followed by Jason who is caught out and rear-ends him. This would normally attract a full penalty, but as Jason had been following for a couple of laps, and Kruger changed his braking point this time around, I've reduced it to a warning.

  • RMJwarning — Rear end shunt

Moderator's Report

A nice clean start, and a wonderful battle at the front between Neil and Hristo, with Lorenzo joining in for good measure (sadly brought to a halt far too early and spoiling my viewing). A nice win by Neil, and another pretty clean race, with only 3 incidents worthy of deliberation.

Lap 1 Allan Davis and Syd Drake

Allan brakes late after getting a tow from Jason on the approach to Scierie and rear-ends Syd as he enters the corner ahead of him.

  • Allan Davispenalty — Rear end shunt — 3 places lost (plus 6 for penalty points)

Lap 15 Lorenzo Galluzzi and Hristo Itchov

Hristo is slower out of Paradis than normal (after some exiting racing with Neil), and this give Lorenzo the opportunity to get alongside before going into T1. Neither of them back off as they approach, both leaving plenty of room for each other. Unfortunately, Lorenzo loses the car, gets very sideways and starts to slide. During the latter part of his slide there's warp contact with the rear of Hristo's car, which puts him out of the race. In this case they are both side-by-side contesting the corner, there was loss of control AND ultimately warp contact. I'm therefore calling this a

Racing incident

Lap 24 Napo, Syd Drake and John Roberts

Napo gets his back wheels on the left hand verge on the approach before the kink into Nouveau Monde, gets it sideways, bounces off the fence on the other side of the road, spins like a top then luckily ends up back on the left verge pointing the right way. As he rejoins, he drifts over onto the racing line just as Syd approaches, who avoids him, but ends up on the grass on the right. Syd tries to control the car, but ends up across the track which punts John Roberts off and out of the race.

  • Napopenalty — Bad rejoin — 3 places lost

Moderator's Report

A nice win by Kruger, and some amazing car control of bent and broken cars (especially by Hristo who soldiers on in the Bond Bug conversion of the Honda).

Practice Hristo Itchov and John Bradbury

Both Hristo and John take to the track about 30 seconds too early during practice. Although no significant advantage was gained, can I please ask folk not to do this? Repeat offenders will be penalised.

L1 Jason Daborn and Hristo Itchov

Hristo loses the back end at Copse and his Honda comes to rest across the road on the right by the pit exit. Jason cannot see Hristo's car until the very last moment when it warps into existence in front of him, and they collide.

Racing incident

L12 Allan Davis and Syd Drake

Allan is slower out of Chapel and thinks Syd is going to pass him on the left, so stays slightly right of the centre of the track. Syd catches some slipstream and goes for a pass on the right. Unfortunately, Syd doesn't leave enough room and there's side contact under braking, which is made worse by warp. As Allan didn't position his car very fairly, and warp was responsible for the final blow, I've reduced the penalty by one place.

  • Syd Drakepenalty — Side by side contact — 1 place lost (plus 5 for penalty points)

L19 Syd Drake and Neil Stratton

Syd is a bit vigorous with the throttle coming out of Maggots, which he manages to catch, but this propels his Eagle sideways into Neil's Ferrari, putting Neil off. As this was loss of control, I'm calling it a

Racing incident

L26 Kevin Williams and John Roberts

Kevin loses it at Woodcote and bounces off the wall back onto the track minus a wheel. John tries to avoid the stricken Ferrari but can't do anything about the ensuing collision.

Moderator's Report

A nice win by Ken, and some excellent battles throughout the field for my watching enjoyment. Once again, PRO rules combined with skillful and considerate driving make for just a few incidents worthy of attention.

Qualifying

Hristo joins the track 25 seconds before the 30 minute mark. Unfortunately, he and another driver did this at the last race. I did mention it in my last report, and requested that folk don't do this, as others will (not unreasonably) perceive it as an unfair advantage. I'm therefore forced to penalise Hristo on this occasion.

L5 Napo

Napo loses it at the Bombhole, and ends up on the raised bank on the right. He safely drives against the traffic on the grass, looking to rejoin. However, when he decides to do so, he drives right across the track just as Pieter's Ferrari is clearly approaching. By some miracle they miss each other, but I'm afraid this was a very bad attempt at getting back into the race.

  • Napopenalty — Bad rejoin — 1 place lost (plus 1 for penalty points)

L11 Kruger Enge and Hristo Itchov

Hristo takes a faster, tighter line through Russell, and gets too close to a warpy Kruger. There's contact sending him off, and Kruger out of the race. I've reduced the penalty by one place as Kruger's warp field played a significant role in the proceedings, but there was every chance it would happen given the proximity of the cars.

L21 Napo and John Roberts

John goes wide coming out of Russell, gets it on the grass, manages to control it but loses speed in the process. This catches Napo out and they collide, both going off.

Racing incident

L21 Napo, John Roberts and Pieter Marien

Napo and John carefully rejoin line-astern on the start/finish straight after their clash. Unfortunately, Pieter's Ferrari is bearing down on them at full chat and he has almost no time to react to them coming back onto the track. Napo and Pieter try to jink at the last moment, but it's too late and they collide. There's no yellow flag on the replay, so I'm not inclined to blame Pieter here. The rejoins were reasonable so I'm calling this one a:

Moderator's Report

Another Lotus powered win by Ken (who will have to park it for the season finale in January), and a great battle for second place between John's rocket Cooper and Kristof's Lotus. This result means it's all to play for at Lime Rock, with John, Lorenzo or Jason in with the best chance of coming away with the title.

The cleanest race of the season so far, with only one incident worthy of mention.

Lap 6 Syd Drake and Kruger Enge

Syd's crippled Eagle is being lapped by the leaders. He gets onto the grass as the front-runners go by, and rejoins the track on the exit of the last corner of Courbe Armand Brouzes. Unfortunately, Kruger is rapidly approaching from the rear, and has no idea that Syd's car is in trouble (there are no yellow or white flags on his replay). As Kruger gets close, he expects Syd to keep going right off the racing line, but Syd decides to move the car slightly back to the left, and they collide (Kruger miraculously surviving, even after getting airborne!).

Moderator's Report

Summary

The last race of the season, and the cleanest too, with no incidents worthy of comment. A superb initial battle up at the front between John, Lorenzo and Hristo made for some excellent viewing. Sadly, Hristo had an early bath on lap 10, as did Lorenzo just 4 laps from the end (from 2nd) both of them getting stuck in the scenery.

John Bradbury managed to bring it home in first with his usual rapid and consistent drive in the Cooper, securing the championship by some margin. Well done John - UKGPL Season 14 Masters champion. Congratulations are also in order to Lorenzo and Jason for 2nd and 3rd places respectively, and to you all for a sporting and well driven season - I hope you can come back again for Season 15!
