Grats to the podium and commiserations to all those who cdt'd. It would have been nice to have a few more cars and battles going on, it gets quite boring all on your own on those long straights!!
The first half the race was a 2 litre duel between Ken , Mike and myself with loads of slipstreaming. For a few insane minutes i wondered if we would get a 2 litre podium??? Then Mike blew his engine on back straight and it was me and Ken for a while towing each other around.
Reality was restored when Syd and Lorenzo steamed up on us and swept past, which wass ok because both Ken and I went for the tow behind the bigger cars. All was well for a lap or so then Syd (it appears ) wobbled at the end of the straight causing a little confusion amongst our happy band. In order to avoid rear ending Ken who was busy avoiding Syd and Lorenzo I put myself onto the gravel. Even though it took only a second to scrabble out I was too far back to pick up the tow and was isolated. The leading trio pulled away at a couple of seconds a lap, and behind me Art was winding his Cooper up and closing with only a few laps to go. The shame is with a 2 litre being chased by a 3 litre, is that you actually give the bigger car a tow!!! as if it needed it on those straights!!?? Art zoomed past on the start finish straight and I tried to hol onto his coat tails only to go off into the cornfields in my enthusiasm.
Phil was the next car behind and according to prib and the rate at which the gap was closing on the straights ( that is just sooo frustrating, watching someone take a couple of seconds off you when your foot is screwed to the floor in top gear!!!) he was going to catch me before the end.
But it seems he got a little carried away and took an excursion into the countryside and gave me a healthy cushion to cling on to my 5th place
Really enjoyed those early laps. Thanks Ken and Mike.
